Gov. Shapiro signs executive order on data centers

On Tuesday, Gov. Josh Shapiro signed an Executive Order restricting data center development in Pennsylvania. This is an important move because even though the PA House has passed eight bills this year to regulate data centers and put protections for communities and guardrails in place, the state Senate has refused to move any of them, even voting down a data center moratorium bill in committee.

The Governor’s Executive Order mandates that any data center developers must:

  • Pay the full cost of electricity and infrastructure needed to power their project, without shifting costs to residents.
  • Commit to full transparency with local residents and leaders often and early, so that communities can have meaningful conversations about the impact of the project.
  • Hire and train local workers and enter meaningful community benefit agreements.
  • Meet the highest standards of environmental protection and strict water conservation requirements.

The Executive Order also removes all data center proposals from the Fast Track permitting process and removes the use of nondisclosure agreements for data center projects – paving the way for more transparency and more time for municipalities to consider whether they want to support projects proposed in their communities.

You can read the Executive Order here.

My Summer 2026 Newsletter is out!

My summer newsletter is out and should be hitting mailboxes across the district shortly! In it, I discuss how the 2026-27 budget benefits Berks County, highlight the millions of grant funding we’ve brought back to the district, and showcase some incredible community events I’ve recently attended.

Check it out here!

Back-to-school safety reminders

School’s almost back in session, which means school buses will be out on the roads again during your commute. A few reminders to help keep students safe this back-to-school season:

  • Yellow lights mean a school bus is preparing to stop. Slow down and watch for children.
  • Stop at least 10 feet away when red lights are flashing and the stop arm is out. It’s the law.
  • Wait until the lights stop flashing, the stop arm is withdrawn, and children have reached safety before moving your car.

Wishing all Berks County students, parents, teachers, and school staff a safe, successful, and wonderful 2026-27 school year! Let’s make it a great year and get everyone home safely.

Participating in Muhlenberg’s New Teacher Scavenger Hunt

There’s something special about this time of year, from the excitement of a new school year, new beginnings, and the incredible energy that comes with welcoming students back to the classroom!

I was happy to participate in the New Teacher Scavenger Hunt, where I had the chance to meet some of our newest educators while also catching up with some veteran teachers. What a great group of people who are ready to inspire, motivate and make a difference for the next generation!

As a proud Muhlenberg graduate, I couldn’t resist showing off a little Muhl pride! Muhlenberg helped shape who I am today, so I broke out my varsity jacket, pom-poms and megaphone to cheer on our teachers and remind everyone that once a Muhl, always a Muhl!

To all of our teachers, new and returning, thank you for everything you do. You have the incredible responsibility and privilege of helping shape the future, and I hope you know just how much our community appreciates you.

Here’s to a great school year!

Celebrating Threshold’s rebrand!

After more than six decades of service to the Berks County community, Threshold Rehabilitation Services turned a new page into just Threshold.

This week, I attended the launch of their exciting new rebrand with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Threshold enhances the quality of life for people with disabilities and the economically disadvantaged, by providing opportunities to achieve total integration into the community through vocational rehabilitation, employment, and residential services.

The milestone marks not just a new look, but also a renewed commitment to the individuals, families, and communities they’ve served since 1965.

Attending an informational hearing on broadband accessibility and affordability

On Tuesday, I joined my fellow members of the House Communications and Technology Committee for an informational hearing about broadband affordability and access in Pennsylvania.

As the world hurtles forward along the information superhighway, our low-income and rural residents are being left behind due to the high cost of broadband and a lack of infrastructure. Investing in low-cost, high-speed broadband will help ensure the even development of Pennsylvania’s economy, supporting the growth of strong, healthy communities throughout the commonwealth for years to come.
