Dear Neighbors,
Following up on my previous special alert newsletter regarding the tragic shooting on Lill Avenue, the Chicago Police Department has confirmed that on Tuesday, an offender was apprehended and today, CPD announced that the individual they arrested was identified as the offender who participated in the fatal shooting in the 43rd Ward last week. There are 3 charges being placed on this individual. They are as follows:
-
One (1) felony count – Murder - First Degree
-
One (1) felony count – Murder - Other Forcible Felony
-
One (1) felony count – Attempt - Robbery - Armed W/ Firearm
I would like to extend a deep thank you to our 43rd Ward community who provided crucial camera footage as well as all the 19th District officers and detectives for their around the clock work leading to this arrest and charge. For CPD’s official statement, please see below:

Our commitment continues to the family of the victim and our whole 43rd Ward Community in prosecuting this senseless homicide to the maximum extent. Today signifies the first, but crucial step towards that and I vow to work directly with the Cook County State's Attorney, Eileen O’Neil Burke, to ensure that this is accomplished.
My number one priority has always been keeping our community safe and obtaining the resources necessary to do so. This incident comes at a moment where our community has experienced gradual decreases in crime over the past few years - and is proof of the aggressive work we need to continue to do as a city and state to get guns off of the streets and to prosecute offenders. My promise is to continue that work, pushing City Hall for the resources we need and supporting our Chicago Police Department.

19th District Camera Link Initiative
|
The 19th Police District launched two brand new safety initiatives earlier this year. First, they’re going door-to-door encouraging businesses and residents to register their security cameras with CPD. This does not give the police access to your footage, but it will help them quickly identify where cameras are located, the direction they face, and who to contact if an incident occurs. You can sign up here and see their flyer here.
