My bill unanimously passed the House!

My legislation to modernize Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs in Pennsylvania unanimously passed the House last week!

House Bill 2425 creates the CTE Curriculum Modernization Grant Program, which helps career and technical centers, school districts, and intermediate units update their instructional materials with innovative digital and print curriculum resources.

As technology continues to evolve, our students deserve access to the tools and training that will prepare them for success in today’s workforce. Thank you to my colleagues for their bipartisan support as we continue working to strengthen career education across the Commonwealth.

Honoring Officer Kristen Yeager

Last week, I spoke on the House floor in honor of fallen Central Berks Regional Police Officer Kristen Yeager, who was tragically killed in the line of duty. I asked my colleagues to keep Officer Yeager’s family in their thoughts and prayers as they face this devastating time.

Officer Yeager was a hero who made the ultimate sacrifice to her community and this Commonwealth. I will work to ensure her name is remembered.

Digital advertising tax advances in the House

On Tuesday, the House passed Digital Advertising Tax legislation, the first of its kind in Pennsylvania that would bring in millions in revenue if implemented.

House Bill 1678 would update the Commonwealth’s existing gross receipts tax to include the sale of digital advertisements, which have been increasingly dominated by the wealthiest of Big Tech companies.

This bill specifically requires multinational corporations to pay their fair share, without raising taxes on consumers, small businesses, or other retailers that pay to promote their products.

Updating the gross receipts tax to include digital advertising could raise $500 million in annual revenue for the state and would go toward property tax relief for seniors. This is a no-brainer for our Commonwealth, all while making a statement on the companies dominating our digital spaces, and I was proud to vote for this bill.

HB 1678 was just one of several bills we passed this week to help our neighbors and improve communities:

  • We’re expanding housing options and helping people afford to stay in their communities by preventing arbitrary limits on unrelated roommates, also known as the Golden Girls Law (HB 2109).
  • We’re supporting workers and small businesses by allowing small business owners to claim a tax credit for contributing to their employees’ health insurance premiums through Pennie.
  • We’re supporting our first responders by helping volunteer, municipal, and combined fire companies pay for new trucks, safety gear, station upgrades, recruiting and retention efforts, and salaries (HB 2446).
  • We’re ensuring that every vote is counted in a timely manner by allowing counties to pre-canvass mail-in ballots up to a week before Election Day (HB 37) and keeping foreign money out of elections (HB 497).
  • We’re supporting families by safeguarding the right to fertility treatments in Pennsylvania (HB 836).
  • We’re expanding protections against nonconsensual sharing of real or AI-generated intimate images (HB 2252).
  • We’re protecting your health by banning PFAS “forever chemicals” in cosmetics, dental floss, juvenile products, and menstrual products (HB 2145).

Special Olympics final leg of the torch run ahead of the 2026 games

The time has come for Berks County’s very own Kylah Schlott to represent Pennsylvania as one of four chosen swimmers for Team PA! I had a great time catching up with Kylah and watching the torch run in Harrisburg ahead of the 2026 Special Olympics Games.

The Special Olympics USA Summer Games will kick off in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on June 20, with expected performances by Demi Lovato and Jon Batiste. I’m so excited to cheer on our Pennsylvania natives!

Dedicated veteran parking at 17 turnpike service plazas

I am excited to share with you a project that was recently unveiled. The Pennsylvania Turnpike, in conjunction with the American Legion, announced the installation of two courtesy veteran parking spots at each of our 17 turnpike service plazas.

While this is a small way to say “thank you” to our veterans who have sacrificed so much for us, it will have a big impact on many veterans every day as they travel across our great state.

State grant programs available

The latest grant opportunities from the state have been released! My office is happy to connect you with government funding opportunities like these, so please reach out if you have a question or need a letter of support.

Around the community

Attending the free two-day MOM-n-PA clinic

I recently attended the annual MOM-n- PA two-day free dental clinic in Allentown this year at their Agri-Plex. MOM-n-PA provides dental care for the relief of pain to thousands of the neediest, many of whom are from working families who do not have access or cannot afford dental insurance.

Many of these patients might otherwise have no hope of receiving care.

Back in 2018 and 2024, I had the opportunity to volunteer as a dental hygienist when MOM came to Reading and our Santander Arena. People were lined up around the arena when I arrived at 6:45am!

  • In 2018 - 917 volunteers treated over 1900 patients over the course of 2 days.
  • In 2024 - 763 volunteers treated close to 1400 patients.

During those two free clinics, $2.5 million worth of dental work was provided - from routine cleanings and fillings to extractions, root canals, and dentures.

We heard stories of how people were so grateful for this free clinic. They could not afford or did not have access to dental care, and this clinic was their opportunity to be seen, treated, and, for some, given a new lease on life.

You don’t appreciate good dental care until you don’t have it. Thank you to all the volunteers that donate their time and talent to changing people’s lives.

Celebrating a big birthday milestone!

I had the honor of presenting a House citation to Leona Hracho in celebration of her incredible 104th birthday!

Leona’s life is a remarkable testament to strength, resilience, and the value of community and family. It was truly a privilege to help recognize this milestone and celebrate such an inspiring woman!
