CAMPBELL CHRONICLES

May 22, 2026

Dear Inquirer,

On May 27, the City Council met for the fourth public comment hearing on the Fiscal Year 2027 Draft Budget, which was rescheduled from its original date due to the tragic shooting at the Islamic Center of San Diego. Many of the concerns expressed by District 2 residents with the initial budget have been addressed in the May Revise. Most importantly, I was able to protect the North Clairemont Library, which was proposed to be closed but will remain open to the over 75,000 visitors it serves every year. Additionally, staffing to clean and maintain the public restrooms in our shoreline parks was preserved. Unlike last year, this year, we must create a balanced, responsible budget based on actual revenue rather than presumed revenues.

Thank you to all the residents who have provided their feedback at Council, through the survey, or via email or phone to my office. Creating a balanced, responsible budget of this size is a difficult task, and it is important for residents to share their opinions throughout this process.

All the best,

Councilmember Jennifer Campbell
District 2

Harvey Milk Diversity Breakfast

May 22 is Harvey Milk Day in California. Harvey Milk was the first openly gay man to be elected to public office in San Francisco in 1977. He was a trailblazer who opened the door for all the openly LGBTQ+ elected officials who came after him. This year's Harvey Milk Diversity Breakfast brought together LGBTQ+ people and allies alike to celebrate some of the many leaders within our community, including Point Loma High School senior Addison Bullard, who has been dedicated to creating safer and more inclusive spaces for LGBTQ+ youth at their school and on a nationwide level. Congratulations to all the award recipients and thank you for all that you do for the LGBTQ+ community!

Delivery of New Recycling Bins Has Begun

The City’s Environmental Services Department will begin delivering new light blue recycling bins this month to households eligible for City-provided trash service. Customers can look up when the delivery of new blue cans will occur for their neighborhood, and crews will remove the old blue bins on that same day. The delivery process is expected to continue over the course of several months, and Environmental Services will notify customers about their bin delivery date through mailers to the property owner’s address. To learn more about the delivery of new bins and see when your bin delivery date will be, you can click the button below to look online through your Residential Waste Collection Services Portal.
