🌳 Schuylkill Center Contract
After two years of organizing, Philly Cultural Workers United secured their first contract at the Schuylkill Center! This is dignity, fairness, and real gains for workers!

We need more unions, not fewer. When workers win, we all win.
I was proud to stand with these workers and look forward to continuing to work with Senator Vincent Hughes to find ways to support the center and its workers.

Iftar Dinner at the Governor's Home
Last week in Harrisburg, I was honored to join Governor Josh Shapiro and faith leaders from across Pennsylvania for an Iftar dinner at the Governor’s Residence.

Sharing this meal together was a reminder of the sense of community Ramadan brings to many of our neighbors celebrating across our community.

Gov. Shapiro reflected on William Penn’s vision of Pennsylvania as a “holy experiment” rooted in tolerance and freedom. He noted that Penn probably didn’t imagine a Jewish governor hosting a Muslim Iftar at the Governor’s Residence — and that says a lot about who we are today.

Safe Staffing Saves Lives
Would you want your loved one in a healthcare facility that isn’t safely staffed? I wouldn’t either. Safe staffing saves lives.
That’s why I pushed back when one of my colleagues across the aisle questioned the need for safe staffing in healthcare facilities in PA during budget hearings last week. Click here or on the image below to hear our brief exchange.

I’m grateful to PA Health Secretary Debra Bogen for highlighting the importance of safe staffing.

🎓 Investing in Students, Ensuring Accountability
If universities are asking for more state funding, accountability matters.
I asked Penn State, Temple, Lincoln, and Pitt to commit to not using university funds, including taxpayer dollars, to interfere with faculty organizing. This includes resources to discourage workers from unionizing. And their presidents all agreed, across the board. Watch our exchange by clicking here or the image below.

I also asked about the impact of Washington’s “Big Beautiful Bill” on our universities. It will make it harder for nurses, physical therapists, social workers, and physician assistants to access student loans at a time when we need them most.
Temple President John Fry shared that Temple, including Temple University Hospital, is facing serious challenges and may lose nearly half a billion dollars over the next decade because of the “Big Beautiful Bill.” Click here or the image below to watch our exchange.

🏛️ A Roxborough Moment in Harrisburg
During Thursday’s budget hearing with Roxborough’s own PA Secretary of State Al Schmidt, we had an unexpected Roxborough moment. A few legislators uplifted their connections to Roxborough during the hearings. A reminder of how connected our community is, even at the Capitol. You can watch the moment in the clip linked here:

AFSCME DC 33 Delegate Convention
I was grateful to be recognized at the AFSCME District Council 33 Delegate Convention, representing the hardworking public employees who keep Philadelphia running every day. There are over 500 members of DC 33 that live in our neighborhood here in the 194th district.

From sanitation to water services and street maintenance to 911 operators, DC 33 members do essential work that keeps Philly moving. I’m proud to stand with organized labor and keep fighting for fair wages, safe workplaces, and dignity for every worker.
