Summer Legislative Recess
|
City Council is on summer legislative recess. City Council Committee Meetings resume on August 19, and the full Council reconvenes on August 24.
Note, the legislative recess is not a vacation. My office remains open for business and dedicated to advancing district priorities. Team LaCava uses the legislative recess to prepare legislative priorities for introduction in September, track district infrastructure improvements, and tackle long-standing community needs, alongside our commitment to constituent engagement.

Prioritizing Pedestrian and Transportation Safety
|
Despite a lean budget year, I fought to meet District 1’s most pressing needs while addressing city-wide needs. For FY 2027, this included, among other accomplishments, my leadership and advocacy to protect libraries and rec centers from deep reductions or shuttering entirely; secure funding to keep D1 comfort stations open (and now working on those in Mission Bay); and – of critical importance – funding to make our streets safer in D1 and across the City.
I have been unequivocal: Street safety is public safety. And I am proud that I was able to secure funds for implementation of the City’s Speed Management Plan, safety upgrades at the “Fatal 15 intersections”, and block the elimination of the Transportation Department’s Multi-Modal Team. These are vital investments in our community’s safety, helping ensure safety for all road users.
We must all do our part to make our streets safer, and I will continue ensuring the City does its part.

San Diego LGBTQ+ Pride Month
|
Council President LaCava, with members of the City Council, presents the “San Diego LGBTQ+ Pride Month” proclamation to LGBTQ+ organizations, advocates, and community leaders.
|
I joined Mayor Todd Gloria, Councilmembers Dr. Jennifer Campbell, Stephen Whitburn, and Marni von Wilpert, and my Council colleagues in proclaiming the month of July “San Diego LGBTQ+ Pride Month.” The City of San Diego is proud to host one of the largest Pride celebrations in the nation.
Team LaCava will join the community in celebrating this year’s theme “Pride Shines On” tomorrow morning at the annual Pride Parade, standing together in unity to uplift love, equality, and dignity.
