Standing up for why Pennsylvania was founded
|
I want to be clear and unwavering in my support for our immigrant friends and neighbors.
Pennsylvania is stronger because of immigrants. They are our coworkers, our small-business owners, our caregivers, our students, and our faith leaders. They enrich our communities, grow our economy, and remind us that opportunity should never depend on where you were born.
When immigrants thrive, Pennsylvania thrives.
ICE’s practices have sown fear in our neighborhoods, separated families, and undermined trust between residents and local institutions. When parents are afraid to drive to work, when victims are afraid to report crimes, and when children worry that a knock on the door could tear their family apart, public safety suffers for everyone.
We can uphold the rule of law without abandoning our values. Enforcement that lacks transparency, due process, and basic humanity is not justice.
As representatives, our responsibility is to protect the dignity and rights of ALL who call Pennsylvania home. I stand with my House colleagues in support of bills that strengthen our communities and amplify the principles our very state was founded on.
|
To our immigrant neighbors: you belong here. Your voices matter. And I will continue to fight for a Pennsylvania that leads with fairness, compassion, and courage—not fear. The Shapiro administration has also put together a list of resources for individuals and organizations/businesses to consider during immigration enforcement operations: Know Your Rights | Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Over $700,000 in grant funding secured for the 163rd!
|
Exciting news for our district! Over $709,000 in grant funding from the Commonwealth Financing Agency is coming to the 163rd!
The following communities were approved funding:
- $500,000 to Clifton Heights Borough for its stormwater pipe replacement projects
- $209,537 to Collingdale Borough to improve pedestrian safety and streetscapes
I’m always honored to bring state funding to important projects across our district! These investments ensure our infrastructure keeps pace with the needs of today while laying the groundwork for tomorrow.

Strategies to reduce costs and boost grid reliability as utility bills rise
|
Last week, I attended a joint informational meeting between the House Energy and Consumer Protection, Technology & Utilities committees on the causes of rising energy prices.
It’s no secret that energy costs are rising across the country. In Pennsylvania, they’ve increased at a rate that significantly outpaces inflation. Last year, energy costs rose by nearly 10% throughout the commonwealth, and utility shutoffs due to non-payment rose by 38%.
Heating your home in the winter or keeping the lights on for your small business aren’t luxuries- they’re basic necessities. At this meeting, we moved beyond identifying the problems and toward legislative solutions.
If you need assistance paying for your utilities, help is available: Apply for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) | Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Presenting the 2026 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Spirit Hall of Fame Award to Centro de Apoyo Comunitario
|
I recently presented the 2026 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Spirit Hall of Fame Award to Centro de Apoyo Comunitario, whose leadership and steadfast advocacy reflect the very spirit of Dr. King.
Centro de Apoyo Comunitario is an organization built by immigrant women in Upper Darby, who are leading with courage, love, and action. Centro doesn’t just talk about justice, they practice it by protecting families and building safety where the system creates fear.
It was an honor to present this award to co-founder Marisabel Isel. Dr. King once reminded us, “everybody can be great, because everybody can serve.” And Centro has shown us what that service looks like—fearless, steady, and full of love.

Celebrating historic investments for William Penn School District
|
Last week, I joined my House colleagues- including Speaker Joanna McClinton and Appropriations Chair Jordan Harris, at Penn Wood Ninth Grade Academy to celebrate the Commonwealth’s investment in the William Penn School District and our ongoing commitment to equitable school funding.
It was especially meaningful to spend time with the student Patriot Ambassadors and see firsthand how these investments benefit students.
The potential of our students is endless, and I keep fighting to make sure our funding priorities reflect that.

Investing in patient care close to home
|
I joined colleagues and hospital leadership at Riddle Hospital to mark the receipt of $4 million in state funding.
We discussed expanding patient access, supporting nurses and clinical staff, and addressing care gaps in our region. Investments like this are critical to keeping quality health care close to home.
I also have an update to share on the future of Crozer-Chester Medical Center and what the recent developments mean for our community. After so much bad news last year, a new owner closed on the sale of the hospital last week.
|
Crozer-Chester Medical Center in Upland Borough has been purchased by Chariot Equities, in partnership with Allaire Health Services. The new owners have stated their plan to redevelop the campus and work toward restoring hospital and emergency services through a phased approach. Chariot Equities has stated that it plans to partner with a nonprofit hospital operator to restore healthcare services at the site and they are actively pursuing a partnership, with a goal of finalizing an operator agreement with a mission-aligned health system within six months.
We also learned that after the initial bidder on Springfield Hospital failed to close on the sale of that property, Prospect Medical Holdings is now in the process of selling Springfield Hospital to KQT Aikens Partners, the same local investor group that previously purchased Taylor Hospital last September. They have also been seeking a nonprofit healthcare operator to reopen services at Taylor Hospital.
I will share updates as more information becomes available.
