FAIRVIEW CONTINUES TO RAISE THE BAR

Last week, I had a great visit with Superintendent Stark of Fairview Schools and the outstanding team at Fairview High School — and I even ran into my former physics teacher, Ms. G!

I had the chance to tour their impressive, world-class facility and connect with students about their goals and visions for the future. Hearing directly from these young people, who are preparing to lead in our communities and workforce, gives me hope.

Fairview continues to raise the bar — not just through its facilities, but through its unwavering commitment to student success.

Thank you for the warm welcome and for the important work you do every day to support the next generation.

HOW WE VOTED

To see how we voted on all measures, go here. After three consecutive weeks of Policy Committee hearings and budget hearings, the House is scheduled to return to session in March, unless recalled sooner by the Speaker of the House.

PUTTING WORKING FAMILIES FIRST

AI-driven dynamic pricing on essentials like groceries could mean price spikes for workers and seniors already feeling the strain of inflation and rising costs.

On Wednesday, House and Senate Democrats joined together for a joint hearing to explore legislation that would protect consumers and family budgets from getting gouged as retailers use algorithms to pad their profits. An investigation in December found retailers charging consumers as much as 23% more for identical items purchased at the same time – a revelation made even more troubling when Consumer Reports investigative reporter Derek Kravitz noted many of the customers were seniors relying on grocery delivery because of their difficulty in leaving the house.

You can read more here or watch the hearing here.

When families and seniors are counting every dollar, unpredictable prices aren’t innovation — they’re instability.

PROVIDING MORE PRE-K SERVICES

High-quality early childhood education and pre-K are public investments with the power to change life trajectories for multiple generations, testifiers noted Tuesday at the PA House Democratic Policy Committee hearing. Lawmakers want to bring affordable pre-K to more children and more families in every corner of PA.

Early childhood education is a great equalizer. When we invest early, we reduce economic and social disparities before they widen, we strengthen financial stability for families, and we provide every child with the opportunity for success.

HELPING SHAPE THE FUTURE FOR WOMEN

For more than 60 years, Pennsylvania has worked to better understand and advance the status of women across our Commonwealth. This week, the Governor’s Advisory Commission on Women launched the start of its forthcoming State of the Woman Report.

Women across Pennsylvania are invited to share their experiences by participating in the State of the Woman digital survey. Your voice will help shape this important report.

In addition to the survey, the Commission will host 13 listening tour stops across Pennsylvania, including one virtual session, to hear directly from women in their communities.

If you’re interested in participating, consider joining one of these upcoming sessions:

🖥️ May 1 – Virtual Session
📍 May 11 – Erie
📍 May 12 – Erie

Your perspective matters, and I hope you’ll take part in helping shape the future for women in Pennsylvania.

POLICY COMMITTEE BACK IN HARRISBURG NEXT WEEK

As the House Majority Policy Committee Chairman, and a member of the House Majority Leadership team, I travel the state with the Policy Committee to hear from workers, seniors, advocates, business leaders, and officials on emerging topics and initiatives. We examine how policies are helping people across the state or learn how we can pass reforms to help even more people.

In the 2025–26 session, the Policy Committee has now held 53 hearings across 38 communities. We have had 42 representatives serve as hosts of hearings and roundtables, providing unique perspectives from around the state.

UP NEXT: The committee will host hearings on helping seniors get the medications they need at affordable prices Tuesday and a bill that would protect good Samaritans Wednesday.

DON’T FORGET TO REGISTER TO VOTE

May 4 is the last day to register to vote or update your address. It only takes a few minutes to register. Don't wait, do it today at PA’s Voter Registration Application page.
