On the front page of the UT

Last week, three of my policies made the front page of the San Diego Union Tribune: my e-bike regulations, cannabis delivery regulations, and my proposed ordinance to protect free parking at San Diego beaches and bays.

In addition to this article on the e-bike policy, I shared my reaction to its unanimous approval in this Instagram reel, which generated some interesting thoughts in the comments if you would like to join the conversation.

My cannabis delivery regulation, which also earned unanimous approval, was discussed in this Union-Tribune article. The TLDR is that I introduced a policy that allows good actors and legal operations to work with us to crack down on illicit, bad actors.

You might recall that, several months ago, I brought a policy to Rules Committee aimed at protecting free parking at San Diego beaches and bays. It got a quick mention in this front-page article, but I also had the opportunity to speak about it at length with my colleague, Council President La Cava, in this interview with KUSI.

Thank you for coming to Coffee with Campillo

Last week, I hosted Coffee with Campillo – my 59th town hall – in Linda Vista at Bayside Community Center. I brought the coffee and you brought great questions, ranging from citywide inquiries about the budget and the pension, to more local issues like Kelly Neighborhood Park.

One thing that I especially appreciate about Coffee with Campillo events is that you bring ideas to me that I then develop into policies or actions in the community. My job as your Councilmember is a collaborative one. Thank you for showing up and working with me to achieve the improvements you want to see in your neighborhoods.

Congratulations to two D7 businesses

This week, we celebrated the anniversaries of two District 7 businesses, S3 Coffee Bar and El Dorado Properties.

S3 Coffee Bar (6225 Mission Gorge Rd, San Diego, CA 92120) is celebrating 10 years of serving customers, going viral on social media, and innovating exciting and fun drinks that keep customers coming back.

El Dorado Properties (5839 Mission Gorge Rd, San Diego, CA 92120) is celebrating an astounding 40 years of business and involvement in our community.

In celebration of these two incredible milestones, we declared June 7, 2026, as “S3 Coffee Bar 10th Anniversary Day” and June 30, 2026, to be “El Dorado Properties 40th Anniversary Day” in the City of San Diego. We are so proud to be home to your businesses and wish you continued success!

Changes coming to public participation at City Hall

If you haven’t heard the news, City Council is amending its participation policies to improve accessibility and transparency.

This week, City Council approved changes to allow for online group presentations, creating new allowances for ceding time, added a time estimate feature for items so that groups have a better idea of when they will present, and more small changes which you can read about here.

The improvements are being implemented to meet a recent state law, SB 707, as well as in response to feedback that City Clerk Diana Fuentes hears from residents and community organizations.

Last week, I joined the San Diego Humane Society to film a summer pet safety PSA for all our residents with furry friends.
