I joined Mayor Gloria, Councilmembers Foster and Elo-Rivera, and community leaders to announce the release of the “May Revise” budget. The May Revise updates the Draft Budget released a month earlier reflecting updated revenue, expenditures, and line-item adjustments based on initial public and Council input; it is still a draft subject to Council adoption. I worked closely with the Mayor and city departments to ensure that next year’s city budget reflects District 1 priorities.
This iteration of the proposed budget restores Monday library hours at the Carmel Valley Branch, protects the La Jolla Rec Center from closing, and provides funding to keep Shoreline restrooms open. This update considerably narrows the outstanding budget issues while recognizing some cuts remain sensitive and outstanding.
On Wednesday, I submitted my final budget memoranda to the Independent Budget Analyst for the Fiscal Year 2027 Budget. I will continue to pursue funding for the District while remaining fiscally responsible.
The 6:00 P.M. City Council Meeting on May 18 was postponed due to the horrific shooting at the Islamic Center of San Diego earlier this week. A rescheduled date will be announced in the days to come. Your input influenced my advocacy and the amendments in the May Revise and the priorities outlined in my budget memoranda; continue to share your thoughts.
