CELEBRATING WOMEN WHO HELPED SHAPE US

It's Women’s History Month, and I couldn't be more grateful for the strong women who helped shape me into the man I am today.

HOW WE VOTED

To see how we voted on all measures, go here. After three consecutive weeks of Policy Committee hearings and budget hearings, the House is scheduled to return to session March 23.

A SURPRISE GUEST

Earlier this week, I had a visitor attend his first Policy Committee meeting.

He didn’t introduce any legislation, but he did make it clear he prefers shorter meetings and more snack breaks!

HELPING PROTECT SENIORS & GOOD SAMARITANS

As the House Majority Policy Committee Chairman, and a member of the House Majority Leadership team, I travel the state with the Policy Committee to hear from workers, seniors, advocates, business leaders, and officials on emerging topics and initiatives. We examine how policies are helping people across the state or learn how we can pass reforms to help even more people.

This week, the Policy Committee completed its third consecutive week of hearings with a pair of hearings in Harrisburg. The committee has hosted 55 hearings with 43 hosts across 38 neighborhoods during the 2025–26 legislative session, including 11 hearings this year.

On Tuesday, the committee examined ways to make medications more affordable for older Pennsylvania residents. No senior should have to choose between buying groceries or medications. Programs like the PACE Program and PACENET already help more than 250,000 seniors afford medications, and Young’s bill, HB 654, would expand eligibility to ensure more people qualify. Testimony noted that unregulated skill games directly impact the lottery, which, in turn, affects additional funding for the senior community.

On Wednesday, the committee also held a hearing on closing a loophole to strengthen Good Samaritan protections. When seconds matter, people should not hesitate to help. The hearing included testimony from a college student who had been charged with reckless endangerment at Bloomsburg University after calling for help upon finding a fellow student abandoned in a dormitory bathroom and suffering from alcohol poisoning. Despite not drinking and offering a life-saving response, the Good Samaritan and his family paid $10,000 in legal fees to help clear his name in court. Advocates supported the effort to pass HB 1944 and HB 1945.

UP NEXT: On March 30 & 31, the Policy Committee will travel to Delaware County for a hearing in the city of Chester on housing challenges and a hearing in Springfield on private equity’s impact on firefighting.

HONORING FALLEN TROOPER IN WAKE OF TRAGEDY

Flags at the Capitol in Harrisburg are at half-staff following the death of Pennsylvania State Police trooper Cpl. Timothy J. O’Connor Jr., 40, who was shot while responding to a call about an erratic driver in Chester County (located in southeastern PA). O’Connor had served as a trooper for 15 years and is survived by his wife and his 6-year-old daughter.

The driver died by suicide after fatally shooting O’Connor.

O’Connor is the 105th trooper killed in the line of duty and the first since 2023. This tragedy is a stark reminder of the dangers law enforcement officers face while protecting and serving our communities and making our hometowns safer for everyone.

FIGHTING TO KEEP PRICES LOWER

Multiple states have passed laws preventing gasoline price changes on the same day, targeting unfair or deceptive price gouging. My bill would provide the same protections in Pennsylvania.

DON’T FORGET TO REGISTER TO VOTE

May 4 is the last day to register to vote or update your address. It only takes a few minutes to register. Don't wait, do it today at PA’s Voter Registration Application page.
