Monday is Indigenous Peoples Day

Dear Neighbors,

Our office will be closed on Monday, October 12, in celebration of Indigenous Peoples Day. The day honors the indigenous peoples of the United States—Native Americans, Alaska Natives, and Native Hawaiians, most of whom were uprooted and exploited beginning with the arrival of Europeans in the Americas.

It celebrates the diversity of indigenous peoples and their contributions to American history and culture. It is also a day to reflect on the historical mistreatment of Indigenous peoples and to recognize their rights and sovereignty.

$589,000 in Grants Secured

This week, I was proud to announce that state grants totaling $589,000 were awarded to support projects in my district.

These grants were awarded through the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources’ Community Conservation Partnerships Program, which seeks to connect Pennsylvanians with the outdoors by supporting recreational improvements, natural-resource conservation and community-revitalization efforts.

Grants affecting the 95th Legislative District include:

  • $300,000 to Spring Garden Township for the development of Windsor Park.

  • $214,000 to Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay, Inc. for Urban and Community Forestry projects, including tree planting and building local tree stewardship capacity in Chester, Cumberland, Lancaster and York Counties.

  • $75,000 to the York County Rail Trail Authority to perform a trail study on the area that would need to be developed to connect Hanover Trolley Trail and Heritage Trail.

I want to thank DCNR for their commitment to investing in our parks and their efforts to preserve and create green spaces here in the 95th Legislative District, York County and across our commonwealth. This funding is an investment in the quality of life and long-term vitality of our community, and I’m excited to witness their impacts for years to come.

I was honored to present certificates to the awardees at the MidPenn Legal Access to Justice Awards Ceremony. The 6th Annual Ceremony brought together members of the legal community to recognize and celebrate distinguished individuals whose dedication and service advance access to justice.

Following a reception, this year’s awardees were formally recognized for their contributions and commitment to ensuring greater access to legal resources and services for all. Congratulations to all the awardees and I look forward to seeing your continued impact and dedication to advancing access to justice in our community.

It was a pleasure to celebrate Bell Socialization Services’ 60th Anniversary at its Annual Celebration! The evening highlighted the inspiring stories of individuals whose lives have been transformed through empowerment, support, and community. It was wonderful to recognize the dedicated staff, community partners, and award recipients who made Bell’s meaningful work possible and continued to make a lasting impact throughout our community.

Congratulations to the entire Bell team on 60 years of changing lives!

What a treat it was to visit York Academy’s Regional Charters Trunk or Treat on Wednesday and to give back to the Catholic Harvest Food Panty Van for their annual food drive kick-off.

It is always a nice way to get family out and help support our community. Thank you for having me.

On Friday last week, I had the pleasure of joining Mayor Walker to celebrate Abundance Kitchen’s newly renovated space! It was wonderful to see this incredible organization continue to grow and create meaningful opportunities for our community. The newly renovated space reflects the care, vision, and dedication that Abundance Kitchen brings to its work every day.

Congratulations to the entire Abundance Kitchen team on this exciting milestone!

On Wednesday, the House of Representatives voted to pass a bipartisan resolution to recognize October 2026 as “Domestic Violence Awareness Month” in the Commonwealth.

House Resolution 638, introduced by me and Rep. Sheryl Delozier, R-Cumberland, was put forward to inform and educate the public about domestic violence, its prevalence in this Commonwealth, its impact on victims and families, and the various resources available to assist and protect victims.

As elected officials, we have an opportunity and an obligation to raise awareness and provide resources to support and protect victims of domestic violence. I am proud to stand with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to do just that.

The Pennsylvania Wing of the Civil Air Patrol is the Commonwealth’s arm of the Congressionally chartered civilian auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force. In Pennsylvania, the Civil Air Patrol operates as both a nonprofit, providing K-12 aerospace and STEM educational curriculum and leadership development opportunities, and as a force enhancer when the Commonwealth needs assistance in search and rescue operations, among other missions.

I was honored to stand with them Monday morning.

Members wore pink to acknowledge October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, honoring survivors and bringing awareness to breast cancer.

Together, we stand in solidarity with survivors, fighters, and families affected by this disease.

As we prepare for the upcoming tax season, our local AARP Tax-Aide program is gearing up to offer free tax preparation to seniors and low-income residents in our community!

Volunteers are needed throughout York County for the spring 2027 tax season. No previous tax experience requires patience, friendliness, and a desire to help others.

Volunteering with Tax-Aide is more than an opportunity to help your neighbors. It’s a chance to learn new skills, keep your mind active, meet new people, work as part of a friendly team, and experience the satisfaction of making a real difference in someone’s life.

You don’t need to be a tax expert. Volunteers receive comprehensive training and ongoing support, and there are several roles to match your interests and abilities.

Ways You Can Help

·           Prepare tax returns after completing comprehensive training

·           Welcome clients as a greeter or help schedule appointments

·           Provide administrative, instructional, or technology support

·           Assist community members as a translator

Your service makes a difference. Last year, nearly 100 AARP Foundation Tax-Aide volunteers helped more than 4,300 taxpayers file their federal, Pennsylvania, and local tax returns in York County.
