I had an awesome time talking to some very engaged citizens the past two weeks at Washington and Rita Smith-Wade-El elementary schools.
I want to thank Lancaster Mayor Jaime Arroyo, School District of Lancaster Board Vice President Katrina Holmes, School District of Lancaster Board President Jennifer Eaton and Lancaster Township Manager Bill Laudien for sharing their thoughts about how participation in civic life is the basis of a flourishing democracy.
And I want to thank these amazing students for their insightful questions and enthusiastic participation!

LancasterHistory's grant will support Capital Day on September 27, 2026, commemorating the one day in 1777 when Lancaster served as our nation's capital.

Governor’s Advisory on ICE Activities at Health Care and Social Service Facilities
|
I want everyone in Lancaster to have the important information they need regarding ICE activities in Pennsylvania, so I am sharing a recent advisory from Gov. Shapiro about potential immigration activities at health care and social service facilities. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security last year lifted restrictions prohibiting ICE from carrying out immigration enforcement in protected areas such as health care facilities and social service providers. According to the governor’s advisory, this means DHS may attempt to conduct activities in hospitals, doctors’ offices, urgent care centers, vaccination or testing sites, crisis centers, domestic violence shelters, and other health care and social service locations.
The governor’s advisory contains information about interacting with agents, warrants and subpoenas, and considerations for facility leadership. You can read the full advisory here.

The PA Department of State is reminding businesses owners and non-profits about the annual report that must be filed each year with the Bureau of Corporations and Charitable Organizations. The reports contain information such as current addresses and officer names that must be kept current.
