Funding for First Responders

This week, I was excited to announce that more than $239,000 in state grant funding has been approved to support our local fire and EMS companies! These courageous first responders are pillars of our community, going above and beyond every day to keep us safe. I will always do everything in my power to help secure the funding they need.

Chair of ALCOSAN

I'm honored to announce that Mayor Corey O'Connor reappointed me to the ALCOSAN Board and that City Council confirmed my appointment. I was also elected by my fellow Board members to serve as Chair of the Board. Clean water infrastructure is essential to public health, environmental protection, and the future of our region. I’m committed to continuing to work with partners across Allegheny County to ensure we are making smart, sustainable investments.

I couldn’t ask for a better teammate than Frankie, ALCOSAN’s favorite fish, reminding us that protecting our waterways protects all of us.

Helping Farmers Fight Climate Change

On Thursday, I was proud to join Congressman Chris Deluzio and local leaders in calling for federal funding to help our farmers, food producers, and independent restaurants address the new challenges they are facing due to climate change.

Thank you to the James Beard Foundation for convening this impactful roundtable in Pittsburgh. Hearing directly from chefs, producers, and small business owners underscored how rising temperatures and extreme weather are driving up costs and disrupting local food systems here in Pennsylvania and across the nation.

Japanese Internment Day of Remembrance

February 19 was Japanese Internment Remembrance Day, an ugly, but important, reminder of what can happen when racism and a failure of political leadership collide.

It’s important to reflect on the grave injustice of Executive Order 9066, signed by FDR in 1942, which led to the incarceration of more than 120,000 Japanese Americans—most of them U.S. citizens—based solely on fear and prejudice.

We must remain vigilant and consistent in defending civil liberties, rejecting xenophobia, and ensuring our commitment to justice and equality is steadfast.
