OFFICE CLOSURE FOR LABOR DAY HOLIDAY

Pennypack Ecological Trust Assists in Keeping Litter From Reaching Our Waterways

This fall, groups and individuals are cleaning up their favorite shared public spaces through Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful’s Pick Up Pennsylvania program, supporting the Ocean Conservancy’s International Coastal Cleanup, an initiative to keep trash from reaching our waterways and oceans.

Pick Up Pennsylvania is the state’s largest community improvement program. This spring 51,000 volunteers collected 1.7 million pounds of trash and beautified 24,779 acres.

Behind those impressive statewide numbers are local organizations and volunteers working year after year to protect the places they call home. One such organization is the Pennypack Ecological Restoration Trust (PERT), located in Huntingdon Valley, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.

For the past 50 years, PERT volunteers have rolled up their sleeves every year to help keep their section of Pennypack Creek and the surrounding community clean, healthy, and beautiful. What began as a local tradition has grown into a powerful example of what can happen when neighbors, organizations, and municipalities work together for a common cause.

This year, as part of the statewide Pick Up Pennsylvania initiative, six partners across the Pennypack Watershed united for a coordinated Creek Clean Up. Volunteers of all ages spread out across six cleanup locations, including parks, trails, roadways, and streambanks, collecting litter and helping protect the watershed that connects their communities. Partners included PERT, Upper Moreland Township, Lower Moreland Township, Lorimer Park, Pennypack Environmental Center, and Riverfront North Partnership.

Together, 169 volunteers removed 171 bags of trash from parkland, roads, and waterways. Beyond cleaner landscapes, the effort strengthened community connections and advanced Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful’s mission of empowering Pennsylvanians to keep our communities clean and beautiful.

Many thanks to Pennypack Ecological Restoration Trust and the other local organizations who have volunteered their time and efforts to help keep our waterways clean!

Grant Funding in District

I am pleased to announce grant funding to two local organizations in our district. Both Healthlink Dental and Huntingdon Valley Library were awarded grant funding to support their efforts to serve our communities.

HealthLink Dental is an organization that provides free dental care for military veterans and low-income adults living in Bucks and Montgomery counties. The $225,000 grant will allow them to continue providing free dental care to those who need it most. The grant funding was awarded through the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services.

The Huntingdon Valley Library was awarded a $50,000 grant through the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development and will support the library’s efforts to engage an architect and develop preliminary plans for its proposed redesign. Libraries are essential community resources, and this funding will take a step in creating a space that can serve our communities for years to come.

Congratulations to both recipients on integral funding to continue the important work that they do!

Governor’s Press Conference in Upper Moreland

Governor Shapiro was in Upper Moreland on Friday to hold a press conference celebrating the $500,000 Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP) grant funding awarded to UM Township which will support the renovation of the Municipal Building and Police Department. These renovations will help strengthen public safety and support Montgomery County’s local law enforcement.

To date, the Commonwealth has awarded $4.1 million towards the Upper Moreland Expansion and Renovation project. This demonstrates the Governor’s commitment to keeping our communities safe and his strong support for the dedicated men and women who serve in local law enforcement.

Senator Maria Collet and I have been proud to support and advocate for state funding for this important project because we understand how essential it is to live in a safe community with well-equipped law enforcement officers who have access to the latest technology and equipment. With this new, state-of-the-art facility, we can be confident that our neighbors and communities will be better protected and kept safe for years to come.

Our police officers put their lives on the line every day to keep our communities safe. They deserve modern, secure, and functional facilities that allow them to do their jobs effectively and safely.

This investment is a great example of what happens when state and local governments work together. The Commonwealth’s commitment to Upper Moreland will help support improvements that strengthen safety for our officers, township employees, and the residents they serve.

Abington Township Fall/Winter Activities Guide Now Available

Abington Township’s 2026-2027 Fall and Winter Activities Guide is now available on the Township's website at www.abingtonpa.gov/FallWinterGuide. Registration is open for all Parks and Recreation programs at www.abingtonpa.gov/PRregistration. This year’s guide includes several new programs such as Mindful Movement Yoga Storytime, Music & Movement Storytime, Mini Makers Robotics, Robot Builders, Yoga in the Park, Mat Pilates, Oil Painting Basics, Mosaic Class, and Beginner Calligraphy.

The 26th Annual Roslyn Fall Festival and Car Show will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2026. Thousands of attendees will enjoy shopping, food, entertainment, and a large car show. The fun-filled day is family friendly and there will be multiple free activities for children of all ages.

College Prep Night Event

Hosted by me, State Rep. Melissa Cerrato, and State Senator Maria Collett, College Prep Night on September 24th is going to be a “can’t miss” event for any family with school-aged children. It will be a presentation with the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA), the Pennsylvania Treasury, and a professional college admissions consultant, discussing such topics as the PA 529 plan, financial aid, scholarships, FAFSA applications and deadlines, what colleges are looking for on applications, and finding the right fit for your student.

Parents of elementary and middle school-aged children are also encouraged to attend to hear about the PA 529 savings plan and how to start planning for higher education early!

2026 Veterans Expo

Mark your calendars and join me, State Rep. Brian Munroe, and State Rep. Melissa Cerrato at our Veterans Expo on Friday, September 18th, from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.

It will be held at the VE Club at 130 Davisville Road in Warminster. There will be several veteran-related vendors to help with support and resources, as well as VA representatives.

SEPTA Senior Key Card SATURDAY Event

Are you 65 or older and need to apply for your FREE SEPTA Senior Key Card but can never make it to our office during open business hours?

We have the event for you!

We will be hosting a Saturday SEPTA Senior Key Card event at our office on Saturday, October 17th from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. Stop into the office with your valid Driver’s License or State ID and we can help you apply for your senior key card. The whole process takes about 5 minutes, and the actual card will be mailed to your home address in approximately 4-6 weeks.

Veterans Service Hours

We are proud to offer Veterans Service Hours every second Thursday of the month to help veterans with a variety of issues – including but not limited to compensation and pension claims, education benefits, state benefits, and burial and survivor benefits.
