Due to the federal government shutdown, Pennsylvania must delay the opening of the 2025-26 Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) season by one month, until December 3, 2025, because the Department of Human Services (DHS) has not yet received its federal allocation of 2025-2026 LIHEAP funds. Visit here for more information: https://bit.ly/474wRMV
Without action from the White House or Congress to reopen the federal government or release LIHEAP funding to states, DHS will be unable to open the LIHEAP season as previously scheduled on November 3, 2025.
LIHEAP is a federally funded program administered by DHS where benefits are distributed directly to a household’s utility company or home heating fuel provider on behalf of qualified Pennsylvanians who need help paying their home heating bills during winter months. On average, Pennsylvania receives more than $215 million every year for LIHEAP – in 2023, the Commonwealth received $216 million and in 2024, $229 million. Pennsylvania cannot backfill these costs.
For immediate needs during the shutdown, Pennsylvanians can use PA Navigate at pa-navigate.org to help find resources. Local help is also available by calling 211 or visiting pa211.org.

New Consumer Complaint Hotline Launched
|
Governor Shapiro's administration recently launched a new consumer protection complaint hotline, a one-stop resource to help Pennsylvanians report scams and fraud.
Pennsylvanians can now call 1-866-PACOMPLAINT (1-866-722-6675), visit pa.gov/consumer, or email consumer@pa.gov to report questionable communications about denied health insurance claims, suspicious financial transactions, or problems with student loan servicers.
The initiative connects consumers with the appropriate state agencies, including:
- Department of Banking and Securities — Protecting against financial exploitation, predatory lending, and banking issues.
- Pennsylvania Insurance Department — Resolving disputes over insurance claims, coverage, and unfair practices.
- Other agencies, including those regulating utilities, student loans, and professional licensing.

Nathan Hess Receives His Eagle Scout
|
I was honored to attend the Court of Honor for Nathan Hess – a Boy Scout from Troop 437 out of Rosyln who recently achieved his rank of Eagle Scout.
For his Eagle project, Nathan improved the grounds of Good Shepherd Catholic Regional School in Ardsley, PA, which is also his elementary school alma mater. Along with fellow scouts and volunteers, he removed unused playground equipment, cleared out old mulch, added topsoil, planted new grass, and painted two new four-square courts.
Nathan coordinated the efforts of over 20 volunteers who contributed more than 118 hours of service, along with giving a $500 donation to the school.
These young men and women who achieve Scouting’s highest honor are bright lights in our future. They work to make the world a better place. Thank you, Nathan, for working hard, living up to the Boy Scout Law values, and leaving it better than you found it.

Skeleton Skurry and Halloween Stroll Fun
|
This past weekend was a busy one – especially around the Borough of Hatboro! Saturday morning started off with the Skeleton Skurry, a 5K Halloween-themed race through the borough. It is hosted every year by Hatboro Federal Bank and is a huge hit among the area's runners!
|
Later in the day, I enjoyed the costumes of several children that stopped by my office during the annual Halloween Stroll. It is always such a fun event, and I’m thrilled to participate. Check out some of the cool costumes I got to see!

Our office will be hosting our Pet Meet & Greet event on Sunday, December 7th, which will include cats and dogs from Hart 2 Heart Animal Rescue and Lucky Pups Dog Rescue. This is your chance to meet a furry friend up for adoption and begin the application process – No pets will be adopted on the day of the event.
Leading up to the event, we will be accepting donations for our Pet Donation Drive, which will be given to the organizations on the day of the event to help keep their adoption sites filled with necessary items to run the shelters. Please see the flyer for requested donations. The drive will begin Monday, October 27th, and run through the event.
Thank you in advance for any donations you can spare!
