Rip's Session Report - Week Four

- February 7th, 2026 -

We are nearing the midpoint of the 2026 General Assembly, which is known as crossover.

We are working hard getting those last few bills through the House, before they head to the Senate next week.

My team put together this fun caricature using ChatGPT, jumping onto the recent social media going around. My family thought it was a little too cheeky!

As always, my team and I are here to support you. Do not hesitate to reach out to us by using the link below.

It is always an honor to meet District 6 constituents in Richmond. Feel free to come visit my office in Room 908.

HB 325 develops mental health trainings for fire fighters, helping them identify and have more access to resources when it comes to mental health issues.

I have no update on the Tysons Casino bill, other than seeing many constituents lobbying to reject it. The bill will soon be considered in the Senate Finance and Appropriations Committee.

I am working with many different stakeholders to secure dedicated transit funding in NOVA and

throughout the Commonwealth.

I hope you are able to come by sometime during the General Assembly session! Feel free to stop by and visit my office in Room 908.

This week I had the honor of introducing the Northern Virginia Chamber as guests in the gallery of the House chamber.

Firefighters are a critical component of our communities, working hard every day to protect the people of the Commonwealth.

HB 325 is an important bill that I am honored to carry this session.

I had the opportunity to work with the IAFF 2068 Fairfax County Firefighters and the Virginia Professional Fire Fighters to carry HB 325 which increases awareness of and accessibility to mental health resources.

Fire fighters face daily challenges to ensure community safety and surely deserve  access to quality mental  health services.

What's The Problem?

Many firefighters face mental health crises such as PTSD and depression over the course of their careers, but often lack the access to supportive mental health resources.

Due to factors such as societal stigmas and limited mental health trainings, many firefighters are at risk of struggling with mental health.

How Will HB 325 Help?

HB 325 creates online mental health training modules through the Department of Fire Programs for use by local fire departments.

This bill would aid in recognizing symptoms of mental illnesses earlier and support firefighters and emergency service members through every stage of their career.

I am excited to see how HB 325 will aid in helping our local heroes.

I'd like to express my gratitude for the bravery of our fire fighters, emergency service members, and first-responders.

It was great to see HB 325 pass the House (90‑Y 7‑N 0‑A)

Tysons Casino Update

As of this week there is no new update on the Tyson's Casino Bill SB 756.

After passing the Senate General Laws Subcommittee and General Laws and Technology Committee 11-4 last week, the legislation is still pending in the Senate Finance and Appropriations Committee

As I have said before, I am strongly opposed to the Tysons Casino and will do all that I can to stop this legislation should it pass the Senate.

Last year I opposed this bill and will happily do so again this year. I will keep you updated as things progress.

Talkin' Transit in Northern Virginia

This week I met with NoVa transportation leadership and had a great conversation about the importance of transit for both Northern Virginia and the entire Commonwealth.
