Dear Inquirer,
The City Planning Department is now accepting feedback on the second draft of the updated Clairemont Community Plan, which is available for review and public input through September 14, 2025. San Diego is divided up into 52 community planning areas, each of which has its own Community Plan, along with the Citywide General Plan, to provide a long-range vision and serve as the framework to guide neighborhood growth and development. Community plans include more detailed and specific information used to shape policies on land use, mobility, urban design, public facilities and services, natural resources, historic and cultural resources, and economic development.
The second draft of the Clairemont Community Plan Update includes improved safety and mobility with protected intersections, expanded areas for walking and biking, and flex lanes that can adapt to meet different traffic needs. It also includes additional recreational opportunities such as neighborhood parks, pocket parks, and joint-use areas in the community.
After the public comment period closes on September 14, 2025, the draft will be reviewed by the Clairemont Community Planning Group, the Planning Commission, and the City's Land Use & Housing Committee before it is presented for the final vote by the full City Council. There will be additional opportunities for public feedback at each stage of the process. To review the draft plan and provide your comments, you can click the button below.

Cerro Pueblo Senior Apartments Grand Re-Opening
On August 4, the Cerro Pueblo Senior Apartments officially re-opened after changing ownership and receiving upgrades to the facilities. Cerro Pueblo provides 47 affordable units for low-income seniors in Clairemont, many of whom live on a fixed income. When the complex was at risk of being sold and displacing residents, RAHD Group stepped up to preserve the affordability of these units for the next 55 years. Thank you to the RAHD Group and their partners at Catholic Charities Diocese of San Diego for your work to keep our seniors housed in these beautifully upgraded apartments!

National Night Out Honors SDPD's Western Division
On August 5, members of my staff stopped by Sunset Cliffs to celebrate National Night Out with members of San Diego Police Department's Western Division and community members. This annual event builds relationships between our local police and the community and serves as a way to thank our officers for all they do to keep our neighborhoods safe. Here in San Diego, we are fortunate to have such an incredible police force, and I want to thank them all for everything they do for our city!

Celebration of 5 Years of Collaboration Between Point Loma Association and Fire Station 20 for Station Beautification
Five years ago, volunteers with the Point Loma Association's Mean Green Team partnered with Fire Station 20 in Point Loma to beautify their landscape at the station. What was once a dry, dusty lawn is now a point of pride for the community and a beautiful way to honor fallen firefighter Ryan Ferrara, who passed away in 2020. Thank you to the PLA, the Mean Green Team volunteers, and the firefighters of Station 20 for your efforts to improve the station and our community.

In-House Mill & Pave Team Completes Work on Oleander Drive and Barnard Street
The Transportation Department's in-house Mill & Pave Team recently completed much-needed road repair in Point Loma on sections of Oleander Drive and Barnard Street. These sections of the road had very low Pavement Condition Index (PCI) scores, and for years I have heard from residents about the poor condition of these streets. I'm so grateful to our Transportation Department for their efforts to improve the streets of District 2!

New Traffic Pattern at Clairemont Drive and Balboa Avenue Intersection
If you notice that the intersection of Clairemont Drive and Balboa Avenue looks different, that's because crews recently completed upgrades to the intersection as a part of the Morena Conveyance projects, which included reconfigured road striping. The new traffic pattern for this area is shown below. While the community adjusts to this new layout, road users are encouraged to drive with extra caution. Please allow for additional travel time during peak traffic hours as delays are expected at this intersection.

Next Phase of Work for Pure Water SD - Traffic Control for Pipeline Installation
Beginning June 30, crews started installing the next phase of traffic control on Clairemont Dr. to allow for pipeline installation. One northbound and one southbound lane of traffic will be maintained through the work zone. Pipeline installation will take place between 7am and 4:30pm Monday through Friday. This phase of work is anticipated to last approximately six weeks, but this schedule is subject to change. For your safety, please follow all posted signage.

Earlier this month, members of my staff joined the Public Utilities Department for "PUD 101," an in-depth look at some of the work that the PUD does. They toured the Murray Canyon Dam and the Alvarado Treatment Plant Lab, and in the afternoon they visited Pump Station 2 in Point Loma to learn about the critical services this pump station provides to our city's residents. Thank you to the Public Utilities Department for taking the time to explain some of the things that they do to keep our water clean and flowing!
