Dear Inquirer,
On Veterans Day, we honored those who have served in the United States Armed Forces both past and present. This year, Veterans Day is especially meaningful because we are also celebrating the 250th anniversary of the founding of the U.S. Marine Corps. The U.S. Army, Navy, and Marine Corps were all formed in 1775, one year before the Declaration of Independence was signed and the United States of America fought to become its own country. Without the bravery and sacrifice of our armed forces throughout the years, we would not have the freedoms we have today.
San Diego has a large military community, with approximately a third of all active-duty Marines stationed in the San Diego area. Many of these Marines completed their training and graduated into service at the Marine Corps Recruitment Depot in District 2. District 2 is also home to Naval Base Point Loma, and to the former Naval Training Center which is now Liberty Station.
It is important that we remember that the reason we celebrate Veterans Day is to honor the brave Americans who have served our country throughout its history, and those who continue to serve with pride and professionalism.

Child & Youth Plan Update
On October 28, the City Council received an update on the City's Child & Youth Plan, which was also heard at the Community & Neighborhood Services Committee in September. The Office of Child & Youth Success has conducted extensive outreach in the course of updating this plan, which serves as a roadmap to inform leaders what tools and resources our city's youth need to succeed. The City's Youth Commission with youth members from all the City's districts keeps our city leaders informed about their needs.
2025 Annual Report on Homes
On November 4, the City Council reviewed the 2025 Annual Report on Homes, which provided an overview of permitting data for homes built in calendar year 2024. The Development Services Department issued permits for a total of 8,782 new homes in 2024. Many of these new homes were built near transit, and 41% of them had two or more bedrooms.
Youth Homelessness Outreach, Prevention, and Education (HOPE) Month
On November 4, the City Council proclaimed November to be Youth Homelessness Outreach, Prevention, and Education (HOPE) Month. Too often, people forget that many of our unhoused neighbors are young people. This proclamation recognizes the collective efforts across all agencies and organizations to end youth homelessness, especially the work done by San Diego Youth Services, Promises2Kids, and the San Diego Housing Commission. We want every young person to have a safe and stable place to call home.

Barrio Donas
Barrio Donas, located in North Clairemont and Old Town, fries up some of the best donuts in District 2. Instead of choosing one influence over the other, founders Janet and Jonathan Martinez marry flavors of Mexico and the U.S., creating a truly original culinary experience. Both the Jamaica and Gansito flavored donuts are work notable mention. Barrio Donas offers sandwiches as well if one prefers something savory, such as their Chilanga or Torta Cubana. Pour yourself a cup of ambition with their traditional Cafe de Olla. At Barrio Donas, cultural blending never tasted this good. Check them out by clicking the button below.
