BEST OF ERIE 2025

I'm so thankful to everyone who took the time to nominate and vote for me as the Best Elected Official in Erie Reader’s Best of Erie 2025. Your support truly means a lot.

You can find all the winners and finalists here. Huge congratulations to all of the winners and nominees — Erie’s talent, passion, and dedication were on full display this year.

WE CAN HELP YOU GET YOUR REBATE

Just a reminder, we will once again be helping people apply for their Property Tax & Rent Rebate this year. The program opened TODAY, and I will be working with my team to help seniors, widows, widowers and people with disabilities apply to receive their rebates!

We will once again travel through the community to help people apply. Whether you used us in the past or need us for the first time, we want to help you. Contact us, and we will let you know how the program works and how we can help!

HONORING 25 YEARS OF PUBLIC SERVICE

Congratulations to Judy Schroeck on her retirement from Fairview Township after 25 years of service! Chip from my team was able to present Judy with a citation from my office. We all wish her the best, and we hope she enjoys retirement after a quarter century of service – including all her work in planning and zoning.

SUPPORTING OUR LOCAL POLICE

Earlier this month, we commemorated National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day. Tragically, 111 officers died in the line of duty in 2025. Please remember, every day is a great day to show your appreciation for all the local officers who make our communities safer.

POLICY COMMITTEE HOSTS FIRST HEARING IN 2026

As a member of the House Majority Leadership team, I serve as Chairman of the Majority Policy Committee. We travel the state, exploring issues and talking to members of the community, workers, advocates and experts on a variety of topics. We examine issues to see if there is a legislative solution for improving lives across the commonwealth.

The PA House Democratic Policy Committee hosted its first hearing of the year last night at East Pennsboro Middle School in Cumberland County.

We heard from a student who suffered from hunger in school, as well as educators and experts on the topic of hunger in schools. Hunger has no place in the classroom. Students suffering from hunger can't concentrate, often struggle with behavior in classroom settings and struggle academically. Universal school meals are not only the right thing to do, but they are the most direct and effective tool in making our schools stronger and raising academic achievements.

This hearing focused on a nonpartisan issue, as both Democratic- and Republican-led states have passed universal school meals legislation. Policy Subcommittee Chair Rep. Emily Kinkead wrote the legislation on universal school lunches and helped lead the discussion.

In the 2025-26 session we've held 46 hearings across 35 ZIP codes in 15 counties. We had 37 representatives serve as hosts of hearings and roundtables, providing perspectives from around the state.

UP NEXT: The committee travels to Scranton and northeast PA in February.
