Office Closed for Labor Day
|
Please note that my office will be closed Friday, September 4 and Monday, September 7 in observance of Labor Day. We will resume normal hours on Tuesday, September 8.
Â
My staff and I are wishing a safe and restful Labor Day weekend to all! I encourage everyone to take a moment to recognize the workers and organized labor leaders who have fought and are continuing the fight for fair wages, safe workplaces, strong benefits, and dignity on the job.

September is Hunger Action Month
|
As we enter Hunger Action Month, it’s an important time to reflect on the fact that approximately 1.7 million Pennsylvanians are experiencing food insecurity, including over 500,000 children.
Â
As House Chair of the Legislative Hunger Caucus and Vice Chair of the House Majority Agriculture & Rural Affairs Committee, I am fully committed to continuing the work to support anti-hunger programs and ultimately end food insecurity in our Commonwealth.
Â
That includes my legislation for universal school meals in Pennsylvania, ensuring every student has access to breakfast and lunch. I have also been a steadfast advocate for stronger investments in programs like the State Food Purchase Program and the Pennsylvania Agricultural Surplus System, which help connect Pennsylvanians with nutritious food while supporting our local farmers and food producers.
Â
From bolstering local agriculture through initiatives like Seeds in the City to advancing statewide anti-hunger policies, we can build a stronger food network that works better for everyone. Hunger is solvable — and I will keep working to make sure every Pennsylvanian has access to the food they need to thrive.
|
Last year, Republicans in Congress passed the deepest cuts to SNAP in the history of the program. As a result, over 200,000 Pennsylvanians have lost access to food stamps. If you want to help, you may use this form to send an email to your U.S. Senators with one click urging them to pass a bill to reverse these cuts.
Â
If someone you know is struggling to afford food, please call my office at 412-321-5523 or email RepKinkead@pahouse.net. My team can help connect you with local food pantries, community programs, and other state assistance for which you may qualify.
|
September is also Love Your Library Month! Libraries are so much more than places to borrow books. They are community anchors where people of all ages can learn, connect, find resources, and better themselves.
Â
I hope you’ll join me in celebrating our wonderful libraries in the libraries of the Allegheny County Library Association all month long!

Great News for Berkeley Hills Fire Co.
|
Congratulations to Berkeley Hills Fire Company on receiving a $41,266 grant for new hydraulic rescue tools that will help firefighters respond to emergencies and better protect both first responders and the people they serve.
Â
Thank you to Paul Skenes for his support of the Gary Sinise Foundation through his strikeout campaign, and to the Gary Sinise Foundation and Sunbelt Rentals for making this investment possible.
Â
Our local firefighters work incredibly hard to keep our communities safe. I’m happy to see this investment in the tools they need to do their jobs.
