PROTECTING PRESQUE ISLE

The return of the Piping Plover to Presque Isle is something worth celebrating.

It was great to join the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, the Pennsylvania Game Commission, and so many dedicated partners to recognize the incredible work that’s gone into bringing back this little shorebird with a funny name.

This success is about more than one species. It’s about protecting Presque Isle, preserving one of Pennsylvania’s greatest natural treasures, and making sure future generations can enjoy everything it has to offer. Thank you to everyone who has made this possible.

POLICY COMMITTEE TRAVELS TO PITTSBURGH

Housing affordability is about more than putting a roof over someone’s head — it’s about strengthening our workforce, growing our economy, and giving more Pennsylvanians a fair shot at the American Dream. The House Majority Policy Committee was in Allegheny County this week, including hosting a roundtable to examine how building more starter homes near transit can create stronger communities and greater opportunities across our Commonwealth. The committee also learned more about the Film Tax Credit, and the economic activity and good jobs it brings to the state. The "Mayor of Kingstown" recently finished, and it created an estimated $700 million for the region and kept good paying jobs in the state during its filming. Pennsylvania is always competing for jobs, but it has lost out in recent years in the film industry to neighboring states like New Jersey. Lawmakers talked with the Pittsburgh Film Office about the benefits of increasing the Film Tax Credit program to make it more competitive with our neighbors and secure more of those jobs.

As chairman of the House Majority Policy Committee, I serve on the House Majority Leadership team and tour the state listening to the concerns and issues facing people across PA. The committee has held 74 hearings across 50 neighborhoods so far this legislative session, with 50 different leaders hosting events.

UP NEXT: The committee travels to southeast PA Aug. 3-5.

INVESTING IN SCHOOLS, NEXT GENERATION

Building a stronger workforce starts with building stronger schools. This year's budget will continue to provide our high-performing schools and local students with the opportunity to thrive. We are investing in our future—and we did it without raising your taxes.
