5/30 – Document Shredding in Ross Township

My free paper shredding event with Sen. Lindsey Williams is this Saturday, May 30! Stop by the Ross Department of Public Works between 9 and 11 a.m. with your paper clutter and we’ll take care of the rest.

If you have any questions, email RepKinkead@pahouse.net or call my office at 412-321-5523.

Share Your Input on Utility Rate Increases

Two public input hearings on the proposed Peoples Natural Gas rate increase will take place on Wednesday, June 3 at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. at the Ross Township Municipal Building. If you’re concerned about rising utility costs, I encourage you to attend an upcoming hearing and make your voice heard.

Public input matters, and this is an important opportunity for our residents to weigh in directly.

There will also be telephonic hearings on Thursday, June 11. Find details on how to participate here.

5/31 – Ross Pride

New Riverview Park Playground

This week, I had the opportunity to participate a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Riverview Park playground with Mayor Corey O'Connor and Councilman Bobby Wilson!

Investing in our parks and public spaces means investing in local families and kids. I’m excited to watch this new playground become a place where North Side families build community for years to come.

Grand Opening of St. John’s Green

It was wonderful to join neighbors and community partners in celebrating the official opening of St. John’s Green in Brighton Heights. What was once the site of St. John’s Hospital has now been transformed into a beautiful community green space that honors the site’s history while creating new opportunities for recreation, gardening, environmental stewardship, and connection.

This project is a powerful example of what can happen when community members, local organizations, and public partners come together with a shared vision for their neighborhood. I’m grateful to everyone whose hard work helped make this dream a reality.

412 Food Rescue’s Good Food Project

I was proud to join state Department of Human Services Secretary Val Arkoosh, Reps. Arvind Venkat and Lindsay Powell, and community partners for a tour and roundtable discussion at 412 Food Rescue’s Good Food Project focused on the future of “Food is Medicine” initiatives in Pennsylvania.

We discussed the governor’s proposal to use Medicaid investments to support medically tailored meals, housing security, and re-entry services that help people with chronic illnesses better manage their health through preventative care.

These innovative approaches not only improve quality of life for individuals and families but also have the potential to reduce long-term Medicaid costs by addressing health needs before they become crises.

State Funding for Bellevue Milk Bank

I am excited to announce a new state grant of $900,000 has been awarded to Mid-Atlantic Mothers' Milk Bank to support the development of their new Bellevue location. This funding will help expand access to critical care services while strengthening health outcomes for medically fragile babies across the mid-Atlantic region!

PRT Riders – Get Ready for ReadyFare

Pittsburgh Regional Transit has started installing new fare vending machines as part of the transition to the ReadyFare system. More than 80 machines are expected to be installed system-wide through late summer 2026 to support the transition from ConnectCard to ReadyFare.

Once installed, the machines will allow riders to purchase ReadyFare cards for $1.

PRT also plans to send postcards and email notifications to registered ConnectCard users with information on how to request a ReadyFare card by mail. The outreach is part of the agency’s “Ready? Set? Go!” campaign aimed at preparing riders for the new fare system throughout 2026.

Riders currently using the Ready2Ride mobile app will not need to make changes, as the app already operates on the same platform as ReadyFare and will continue to support fare payments.
