Required Training for Recognizing Human Trafficking Signed Into Law

My mission to require training for lodging and hospitality staff on how to recognize and report human trafficking has finally been signed into law as Act 31 of 2026! We’ll have a public event with the governor, stakeholders, and colleagues in the near future, but for now I’m just so proud this concept I’ve been working on for several years has finally come to fruition. Together we can do great things, and this was truly a group effort to get across the finish line. On top of a $2.4 million investment in the state budget for human trafficking enforcement and prevention, we are walking the walk in PA to end human trafficking – I’m proud to be part of those efforts as your state representative.

Securing Grants for Community Projects

One of the most important AND EXCITING parts of my job in state government is announcing grant recipients in our community! I'm proud to deliver over $10 million worth of investments in the cultural well-being, health and safety, plus job creation and innovation for our communities.

Additionally, I’m happy to announce that Riddle Memorial Hospital in Delco received a grant to update their emergency facilities and improve our healthcare opportunities in Delaware and surrounding counties.

I’m also excited to promote a grant for over $1 million to the Community College of Philadelphia to improve their Naval Welding Institute facilities and program which will support the Hanwha Philly Shipyard at the Navy Yard in South Philadelphia.

Congratulations to the award winners!

Reminder: Free Uber Rides thru July 29

As part of our efforts to help with recovery from the recent storms, my colleagues and I have worked with ACHIEVEability and Uber to offer free rides through Uber for folks in South and Southwest Philly who continue to be impacted by storm damage. Many people sustained damage to their vehicles or their regular transportation, so these rides can be a lifeline for so many folks who are still dealing with the impacts of these storms.

The scope of the damage is so large and widespread that this will likely be a prolonged recovery, so connecting neighbors with these services is one way that we can help folks manage their mobility without disrupting their lives too much.

Support for Families & Caregivers

Caregiver Connection is a new, free online resource designed for families of loved ones dealing with substance abuse disorder to find support for themselves as they navigate their family’s treatment and recovery. This site was created by and for Pennsylvania family members navigating substance use disorder. Wherever you are in this experience, there is support for you. It’s a one-stop shop of resources such as locating a local or online support group, connecting with others who understand what they’re going through, how to find their closest county drug and alcohol office, where to get free Narcan, and more. Summertime Meals for Kids

SUN Bucks, Pennsylvania’s summer EBT program, is a grocery benefits program that provides households with a one-time payment of $120 for each eligible child to buy food while school is out. Benefits can be used at participating local retailers to purchase groceries.

Many children will receive these benefits automatically, but some families may need to apply. Benefits will be added to an existing SNAP/TANF EBT card or issued on a new summer EBT card.

If your child is automatically eligible, you can expect to receive their SUN Bucks benefit by the end of July. Use the Eligibility Navigator to determine whether your child is automatically eligible for SUN Bucks or whether you need to apply. The application deadline to receive benefits in 2026 is August 31.

Summer Walking Tour

Keep an eye out for Team 185 as my staff and I will be knocking on doors in our communities all summer long to make sure that you know about the information and resources that we can provide. It’s also a good chance to interact with our neighbors so you can let us know what changes and improvements are needed in your neighborhood!

Check out the graphic above for the starting location, date, and time for when we’ll be near your community!

On Monday, we were in Southwest Philly neighborhoods connecting folks with information and resources from our office!

Community Day

Join me and House Speaker Joanna McClinton, Councilwoman Jamie Gauthier, and our community and neighbors, for this Community Day celebration on Saturday, Aug. 1 at Richard Allen Prep Charter on Lindbergh Blvd. in Southwest Philly. From 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. we’ll have a full day with fun and games, health and wellness resources, food and fellowship, and so much more!

IN THE COMMUNITY

Our first Music in the Park event last week was awesome! It was a wonderful gathering at Stephen Girard Park, as we connected over community and resources with great live music from the Kevin James Band!

Save the date for our next Music in the Park night on Wednesday, Aug. 26 at Elmwood Park!

We had a productive meeting with the Eastwick Community this week at the Philadelphia Airport! Great discussion with everyone who attended.

Our Faithful Connections meeting on Wednesday evening was a meaningful discussion with leaders from our faith-based organizations and community.

Our Liberian neighbors are a very important part of our community in the 185th District, so my staff and I were so happy to support them at this moving commemoration and flag raising at Philadelphia City Hall for Liberia’s 179th Independence Day.

Our office is reaching out to our neighbors who have something valuable in the vault, but you can search your name on their website by clicking above to find out on your own and make your claim faster!

State Grants Available

My office helps city officials and local organizations connect to state grants available to help them do their important work to improve our communities and the lives of residents. You can find a list of state grant programs that are currently open for application on my website. We update this list as new programs come online so check back often.
