Dear Neighbors,

We are writing to notify you of the alley closure on Drummond Place that is behind Alcott Elementary, impacting neighbors along the 600 blocks of Drummond and Wrightwood. Chicago’s Department of Transportation, Mayor Brandon Johnson, and I are pleased to inform you that the reconstruction of your alley is anticipated to commence on Thursday, June 12, 2025. Mobilization will begin next Wednesday (6/11), saw cutting to begin on Thursday (6/12), and alley demolition will begin on Monday (6/16). Please have your car moved from your garage by 6/11. For those whose garage parking spaces will be severely affected by the construction, our office is working with Alcott Elementary to secure parking spaces in their lot. More information to follow soon in a separate email.

Construction is expected to take forty-five (45) days to complete, weather permitting. Resident access off of the alley during construction will be limited throughout the duration of the project. The work hours will be 7AM to 5PM on Monday-Friday (Saturday with a 72 hour notice to the residents), and is also weather permitting.

The alley closure is slated to begin on June 12th, 2025.  There will be no blockage of Drummond and Wrightwood, however, some parking along these blocks will be taken up for this project. No parking will be posted on the following:

1. South side of Drummond full length for the materials/equipment.
2. On the North side of Drummond for 50' across from the alley entrance.
3. On Wrightwood, both sides of the driveway ~20' and across the street ~50'.

As construction begins, the following changes will occur:

1. Residential garbage pickup will be curbside. We ask that the property owners relocate garbage cans to the front of their property on the sidewalk on Drummond. The Chicago Department of Streets and Sanitation will collect refuse from this new location during construction. If you have private refuse, the containers will be on Wrightwood next to the driveway for pickup.

2. There will be no access to the alley for approximately forty-five (45) days depending on the weather conditions, beginning 6/11/25. Access to garages from the alley will be unavailable during this same period.

3. Barricades will block all entrances to the alley. If your garage is utilized as your primary off-street vehicle parking, property owners are advised to seek alternative locations.

4. Garage aprons will be replaced only as needed and all construction residuals will be removed/cleaned at completion.

For this project, the contractor will need full access for a minimum of a week during construction of the sewer portion of the project going North-South to Drummond Street. The residents will not have alley access at this time. This may be broken up into 3 or 4 days at a time. CDOT will provide a walkway along the garage door side of the building when they are not closing it off completely during the larger, more dangerous portion of construction.
