Grant Awarded for Water Street Park
|
We got exciting news this week as the PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources announced a series of grants including $145,000 to Colwyn Borough for the rehabilitation and development of Water Street Park! The work will include renovations of the basketball courts, better walkways and parking, improved stormwater management, and more.
Outdoor community spaces help us meet with our neighbors, give young folks an outlet for recreation away from a screen, and provide quiet areas for everyone to unwind and slow down. We ALL could use that more often!
I'm so happy that Colwyn Borough will be able to move forward with these renovations for Water Street Park. Click the graphic above to read more about this grant and other funding awarded to projects in Philadelphia.

Human Trafficking Report Released
|
This week the Human Trafficking Report by Greenlight Operation was publicly released. It’s a wonderful document that highlights the work in front of us for ending this heinous crime and better supporting victims. The seven outlined challenges and recommendations will help to launch our efforts as we look to the 2027-28 legislative session. The progress we’ve made this year with Acts 31 and 41 taking effect, in addition to the 35.8% increase for human trafficking enforcement and prevention through the Attorney General’s Office in the 2026-27 state budget, are meaningful movements forward that we can build on for better prevention, education, and enforcement.
While many of the responses are sobering, I’m also energized by the report and already using it as a vehicle to launch my efforts in 2027. Details are still being worked out and finalized, but save the date for my Human Trafficking Symposium at the Philadelphia Convention Center on January 9. This will be a full day of workshopping and discussion on paths forward with youth, parents, educators, and other stakeholders on ideas including improved education through schools and better support for survivors.
We know education can shine a light on so much evil in this world, so I’m looking forward to working with stakeholders to develop prevention education and finding ways to attack misconceptions about trafficking.

House Passes ‘No Time for Pause’ Package
|
Menopause and perimenopause are a normal part of life for millions of Pennsylvanians, but too often women face barriers to getting the healthcare, information and workplace support they need.
Menopause symptoms are NOT “problematic,” as House Republicans have stated, or a burden to society – these disparaging comments are the reason Pennsylvanians need this package of bills.
In the House, our “No Time for a Pause” package of menopause legislation has passed which would improve access to menopause treatment, distribute much-needed education on menopause and perimenopause and provide reasonable workplace accommodations for women experiencing menopause and perimenopause symptoms.
Together, these bills recognize a simple principle: women should be able to get the care and support they need to remain healthy, financially secure and active in the workplace and their communities.

Protect Your Identity by Shredding
|
Shredding your outdated and unneeded paperwork is the best way to protect your identity and sensitive information. Bring two bags of paper to our Shredding Event on Saturday, Oct. 17 at Motivation/Turner Middle School, 5900 Baltimore Ave., to be shredded and safely disposed of on-site. We’ll be there from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. or until the truck gets full, so get there early!
