IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: GETTING BACK TO NORMAL
|
In early July, I was severely injured in a motorcycle accident, but I'm on the mend. Susan Maxwell Skinner wrote a moving piece in the Carmichael Times about the accident and my recovery. You can read it here.
It will be a long road to recovery, but I'm working to return to in-person events and meetings. In the meantime, I'm doing as much remotely as I can, including attending Board of Supervisors meetings virtually. My staff and county departments continue to respond to constituents and handle meetings without interruption.
The outpouring of concern and well wishes has meant more to my recovery than I can say, and I'm grateful to everyone who has reached out. I look forward to being back in the office and at events in person soon.

WYDA WAY SIDEWALK IMPROVEMENT PROJECT UNDERWAY
|
Construction is now underway on the Wyda Way Sidewalk Gap Closure Project, an important investment to improve safety and accessibility for residents in the Arden-Arcade community.
The project will construct new curb, gutter, and sidewalk along Wyda Way between Jerron Place and Markston Road, while also adding ADA-accessible curb ramps, streetlights, and drainage improvements. In addition, crews will rehabilitate pavement on Wyda Way from Markston Road to Alta Arden Expressway, the entirety of Jerron Place, and a portion of Markston Road.
Funded through a combination of federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds, SB 1, and local funding, the approximately $2 million project reflects Sacramento County's continued commitment to improving neighborhood infrastructure and making our streets safer for pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists alike.
Construction began in July 2026 and is expected to continue through November 2027. Residents and motorists should expect periodic traffic impacts and are encouraged to use caution when traveling through the work zone.
Thank you for your patience as these improvements are completed. We look forward to delivering a safer, more accessible corridor for everyone who lives, works, and travels in the area.

FAIR OAKS BOULEVARD IMPROVEMENTS UNDERWAY
|
Construction is underway on the Fair Oaks Boulevard Bicycle and Pedestrian Mobility Project – Phase 2, an investment that will improve safety, mobility, and accessibility along one of the community's busiest corridors. The project stretches along Fair Oaks Boulevard from Howe Avenue to Munroe Street and includes improvements to Fulton Avenue between Fair Oaks Boulevard and Sierra Boulevard.
The project will transform the corridor by reducing Fair Oaks Boulevard from six lanes to four, allowing for the installation of barrier-separated bicycle lanes, wider sidewalks, new street lighting, landscaping, and shade trees. Additional improvements include new traffic signals at University Avenue and Fulton Avenue, along with modifications to the Sierra Boulevard intersection to improve traffic flow and safety for everyone using the roadway.
Funded through federal Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) and Regional Surface Transportation Program (RSTP) grants, along with Measure A and developer fee funding, the approximately $10 million project reflects Sacramento County's ongoing commitment to creating safer, more connected streets for pedestrians, cyclists, motorists, and transit users. Construction is expected to continue through 2027.

Annual bills for Sacramento County unsecured personal property taxes for fiscal year 2026-2027 were mailed on July 17, 2026, and are payable without delinquent penalties through August 31, 2026.
Unsecured property tax bills are mailed to all owners of unsecured property in July of each year. If you owned unsecured property in Sacramento County, such as a boat or aircraft, or if you leased or owned fixtures and equipment related to a business on Jan. 1, 2026, and do not receive a tax bill by Aug. 8, 2026, please contact the Sacramento County Tax Collector’s Unsecured Property Tax Unit at (916) 874-7833, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding holidays.
Nonreceipt of a tax bill does not excuse delinquency or allow the tax collector to cancel penalties or collection costs.
Tax bills become delinquent if not paid in the Tax Collector’s Office by 5 p.m. on Aug. 31, 2026, or received by mail bearing a postmark of Aug. 31, 2026.
If the tax bill is not paid by the delinquency date, a 10% penalty and collection cost will be added. DMV registration may be withheld on watercraft if unsecured property taxes are reported delinquent. If a tax bill remains unpaid after Oct. 31, 2026, additional collection costs and monthly penalties at the rate of 1.5% will be added to the base tax.
Payments may be made by mail or in person at the County Tax Collector’s Office located at 700 H Street, Room 1710, Sacramento, CA 95814, between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, holidays excluded. For credit/debit or eCheck payments, please visit our website.

Tuesday, August 4, is National Night Out (NNO), and there are many gatherings planned throughout District Three. NNO is held annually on the first Tuesday in August.
The goal is to enhance the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community. These events present a great opportunity to become acquainted with your neighbors and get to know law enforcement in your community. Events can be as simple as a small get-together in a cul-de-sac, exchanging numbers for an ice cream social, or even a larger block party with food and activities for children. Law Enforcement benefits from these events with their positive interactions, building stronger and longer-lasting communities.
The first official National Night Out occurred in August of 1984 with 2.5 million neighbors across 400 communities in 23 states. It has since grown over the last 40 years, and now over 38 million neighbors in 50 states get together once a year.
Please see our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) or visit NATW National Night Out website.
Have a safe evening, and hope to see you in your neighborhood!
