Recognizing Jan. 6 as ‘Democracy Observance Day’ in Pa
|
Tuesday marked the fifth anniversary of one of the most shocking acts of domestic terrorism in our nation’s history. I joined my colleagues in reintroducing a resolution to honor the courageous men and women who defended our democracy on January 6, 2021, by protecting the U.S. Capitol.
The resolution would also establish an official observance to help ensure the nation never experiences an attack like the January 6, 2021, insurrection again. If approved, January 6, 2026, would be designated as “Democracy Observance Day for Education, Remembrance, and Vigilance.”

PA ABLE expands eligibility, opening savings opportunities for more Pennsylvanians
|
The PA ABLE Savings Program has expanded eligibility, giving thousands more Pennsylvanians with disabilities the opportunity to save for their future tax-free. Individuals whose disability began before age 46—up from the previous limit of 26—are now eligible to open a PA ABLE account, making this a meaningful and impactful change.
Since its launch in 2017, PA ABLE has helped people with disabilities build financial security without jeopardizing essential benefits such as Medical Assistance (Medicaid) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI). Participants can contribute up to $20,000 annually, use funds for a wide range of disability-related expenses, and deduct their contributions from Pennsylvania state income taxes.
Currently, more than 11,500 Pennsylvanians have saved nearly $185 million through PA ABLE, with many more now eligible due to the expanded age limit. To learn more, visit paable.gov or call 855-529-ABLE (2253).
