Juneteenth Holiday Office Closure
|
Our office will be closed on Friday, June 19th in observance of the Juneteenth Holiday.
Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, the day when enslaved people in Galveston, Texas learned of their freedom—more than two years after the issuance of the Emancipation Proclamation. Recognized as a federal holiday, Juneteenth honors the end of slavery in the United States and celebrates freedom, resilience, and the ongoing pursuit of equality.
We will resume normal business hours on Monday, June 22nd at 9 a.m. Thank you for your understanding, and we wish everyone a meaningful Juneteenth holiday.

Green Star Service Banner Legislation Passes Unanimously in House
|
I am proud to announce that my legislation, House Bill 2449, authorizing the voluntary display of the Green Star Service Banner on state-owned property to honor veterans who have died by suicide - passed the House unanimously last week.
This legislation is about recognizing that we need to do more to support our troops when they return home and provide a meaningful way for Pennsylvania to honor veteran families who have lost a loved one to suicide.
The collective action on both sides of the aisle to advance this legislation sends a powerful and compassionate message to the families of veterans lost to suicide, and to all Pennsylvanians who care deeply about the wellbeing of those who have served.
HB 2449 now advances to the state Senate for consideration.

Shapiro Administration Launches Specialized 511PA Website to Help Travelers Headed to the World Cup, MLB All Star Week, and America250 Events this Summer
|
As Pennsylvania takes center stage this year for several of the nation’s most high-profile sporting and cultural events, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is encouraging drivers traveling to FIFA World Cup 26™ matches, FIFA Fan Festival™, MLB All-Star Week, or America250PA events in Philadelphia to plan their trip using the enhanced real-time travel information available on a specialized web page at www.511PA.com/PhillyEvents.
These enhancements support the Governor’s commitment to providing accessible, real-time digital services to every Pennsylvanian.
Hosted through the department's www.511PA.com traveler information website, the page is dedicated to monitoring traffic conditions on primary travel routes to the events.
The new web page includes links to traffic maps, along with other helpful links, and travel tips for getting to each event. Traffic maps include the average travel time for primary routes to each event. Users can see real-time incidents, construction, traffic cameras, traffic speeds, and message board displays on the maps. The maps also include real-time SEPTA information, including status and next departure times.
PennDOT's Southeast Regional Traffic Management Center is also supporting the events by posting real-time travel information on changeable message signs. PennDOT will be activating 40 additional cameras in the area and throughout the summer events to enhance monitoring of current traffic conditions, as well as 32 additional message boards to help direct travelers.
511PA is also available through a smartphone application for iPhone and Android devices, by calling 5-1-1, or by following regional Twitter alerts accessible on the 511PA website.

PennDOT Seeks Public Comment on Statewide Transportation Improvement Program
|
PennDOT is encouraging Pennsylvanians to review and comment on the draft 2027 Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP). The 2027 STIP is a list of projects identified for federal, state, local, and private funding over a four-year period. These projects support the Shapiro Administration's vision of a safe and reliable transportation network that connects Pennsylvanians to opportunities and services.
The comment period will remain open until 5:00 p.m. on June 30, 2026.
The 2027 STIP is comprised of 24 regional Transportation Improvement Programs (TIPs) and a variety of additional programs. The STIP is updated every two years after the regional TIPs are submitted and approved, and will be adopted as part of the 12-Year Program update by the State Transportation Commission (STC) during the August 5, 2026 STC Business Meeting.
The draft STIP, including an infographic providing an overview of the STIP process, can be viewed online.
Comments can be submitted by filling out the online comment form at TalkPATransportation.com or emailing comments and questions to
RA-PennDOTSTC@pa.gov.
The public may also call PennDOT to share their comments at 717-783-2262.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.
This work is part of a $2.7 million project to install High-Friction Surface Treatment (HFST) on several state highways across Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties to provide increased friction and grip on pavements in wet and dry conditions.
