23 S. Sangamon Project Update

After discussions with the development team and the Park District, developers are moving forward with a 70-unit building at 23 S. Sangamon. The updated plan is similar to the original planned development approved when this site was in the 25th Ward, but I worked to ensure the update also included community benefits for Mary Bartelme Park. The site will now include public restrooms, a top priority for neighbors who frequent the park.

As these conversations continued between the Park District and developers, it became clear that market changes and concerns about a community center causing additional overuse of the already popular park would prevent the community center plan from moving forward. In addition to bathrooms, this updated plan will also include storage for the Park, making programming easier to facilitate throughout the year.

This building will include 3 and 4 bedroom units, and 20% of these units will be affordable. This larger unit size will make it easier for families to find a home in the West Loop.

I appreciate the partnership of neighbors, the Park District, and the development team as we negotiated a plan that would bring long-term benefits to the community.
