Join Me in Advocating for Menopause Legislation

YOU (bring friends!) are invited to join me in Harrisburg on September 29! Women spend one-third or more of their lives in menopause, and yet there is a severe lack of medical research, support and education. Osteoporosis, heart disease, mental health and other risks increase for women as they enter menopause – whether naturally or surgically. Due to inadequate treatment options and support, it’s estimated that lost workforce productivity and healthcare expenses related to menopause cost the US economy $26.6 billion each year

Let’s raise our voices in a call to action! It's past time for the government to step up! All are invited to join us in advocating for the 'No Time for a Pause' package of menopause-related legislation on September 29 at 1 p.m. in the Main Rotunda of the PA State Capitol. This legislation is working to deliver better care, education and treatments for the women of PA.

Additionally, encourage your friends/neighbors to take action in urging their state Representative to co-sponsor the 'No Time for a Pause' Package here.

FREE Community Shredding

Join Senator Comitta and me on Saturday, October 3 for our annual FREE Community Shredding Event. The event will be hosted at Valley Forge Middle School from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. We will also be collecting toiletries and everyday necessities for The Mitzvah Circle. I hope to see you there!

Honoring America's 250th Birthday

On September 9, the PA House returned to democracy's birthplace at Congress Hall in Philadelphia for a historic Legislative Session. I was proud to join my colleagues in honoring the history of our nation and look toward the betterment of our future. The day served as a reminder of how far we have come as a nation and the work we must continue to do to leave our world a better place for the next generation. For my comments on this occasion, visit here!

Protecting Pennsylvanians from the Catastrophic Risks of AI

Over the past week, we have seen a surge in news headlines around the world detailing concerns shared by CEOs of major AI companies regarding the alarming potential risks posed by the largest and most advanced AI models. These risks include catastrophic failures of the worldwide internet, bioweapons development, threats to financial, utility and infrastructure systems, and more.

In August I circulated a memo announcing my intentions to introduce legislation to proactively mitigate the catastrophic risks related to frontier AI programs. In the absence of action at the federal level, PA must join the other states that are stepping up by passing their own safeguards. For more details, see my press release here.

Sincerely,

Rep. Melissa Shusterman
