Supporting Children and our Families in the Commonwealth

In 2008, I was a mother working three jobs to keep food on the table and to stop our house
from being lost. My husband’s trucking company halted, the real estate market crashed,
and I owed the mortgage company around $75,000. It was tough.

I tell you this because I feel like it is actually worse right now. That is why Rep. Haddock,
Rep. Schusterman, and I plan to introduce a bill that would create a refundable statewide
child tax credit for families with children under six years old. This credit would help to
alleviate some of the crushing costs on young families, would lift children out of poverty,
and would tackle the affordability crisis in a real way.

This is not a Democrat or Republican issue – it is a human issue. I am calling on my
colleagues in the House on both sides of the aisle to put politics aside and support our
Commonwealth’s children.

I speak more on the issue here

Boosting Emergency Preparedness at High-Risk Care Facilities

The deadly explosion at Bristol Health & Rehab Center has shown us there are critical gaps in our emergency preparedness laws that must be addressed. Senator Steve Santarsiero and I are introducing legislation that would require high-risk care facilities — including nursing homes, assisted living facilities, daycares, and recovery centers — to share emergency response plans with local police, fire departments, EMS personnel, and county emergency management officials.

Too often, it takes a devastating emergency to expose weaknesses in outdated laws. What happened here is a heartbreaking reminder that there is no margin for confusion or delay when lives are at stake. We have a responsibility to act now to improve coordination, protect vulnerable residents, and give first responders the tools and information they need to safely do their jobs .

Military Appreciation Month

May is Military Appreciation Month. This month, we recognize and celebrate the selfless
service of our nation's armed forces, whether they be active-duty, veteran, or deceased.

We can never properly thank the patriots who have served in our military, but this month,
let's acknowledge their heroism, bravery, and commitment to service.

Women across Pennsylvania are encouraged to participate by completing a brief multilingual digital survey or attending a regional listening session. The survey will remain open through May 30. Please share this opportunity widely to help ensure diverse voices and experiences are reflected in the final report.
