Milestone alert: Please join me for our 60th town hall event! Since taking office in 2020, I’ve had the privilege of hosting town halls, community coffees, and office hours across District 7 – 59 of them, to be exact (my staff counted!).
To mark our 60th community meeting, we’re hosting a special Coffee with Campillo on September 12, 2026, at 9 a.m. at the Mission Trails Regional Park Visitor Center. Free parking at local beaches and bays: on to City Council!
|
This week, the City Council’s Rules Committee voted to approve my ordinance to preserve free parking at local beaches and Mission Bay for 10 years! Now, it will advance to the full City Council for final approval. I brought this item forward with Council President Joe LaCava to ensure the City does not repeat the same mistake we saw with the parking fees at Balboa Park.
This ordinance is about ensuring that access to our most treasured public spaces remains clear and protected for the people of San Diego – and it’s just one part of a larger series of transparency and accountability initiatives I will be bringing forward in an effort to build trust and clean up City Hall to ensure we have the right protocols in place moving forward. New Approach to Fill Potholes Ahead of Rainy Season

After pushing hard for a better solution to address the growing number of potholes in our city, I’m proud to share that City crews have repaired more than 1,100 previously unreported potholes over the past three months through a new initiative that proactively sends crews to neighborhoods that historically generate fewer street repair requests.
While crews continue responding to potholes reported by residents, Transportation Department teams are now also inspecting streets and making repairs before a service request is submitted. This work also helps prepare San Diego’s streets for the rainy season.
Addressing existing problems now means crews can enter the wetter months with fewer outstanding repairs and greater capacity to respond when new potholes emerge. Please continue reporting potholes and other infrastructure concerns through the Get It Done app or City website!

The Padres officially have new owners
|
The San Diego Padres officially have new owners! Kwanza Jones and José E. Feliciano were introduced at a press conference at Petco Park this week to mark the start of their ownership. Here’s what they had to say:
“Our ambition is clear: to bring a World Series championship to San Diego and build an enduring organization capable of competing for championships year after year…We intend to be engaged owners, bringing our energy, experience, and perspective while working alongside the talented team already in place and investing ambitiously and thoughtfully in the Padres’ future...We are all in and committed to winning.”
As a Padres fan since I was Rafa’s age, I’m all in and excited to see where the team goes from here. The energy and enthusiasm Jones and Feliciano are bringing to the organization are exactly what San Diego needs as we continue the fight for a third playoff berth in a row. It’s an exciting new chapter for the Padres, and my family and I cannot wait to see what’s next.

PandA Updates (No, not that kind of Panda 🐼)

The City’s Performance & Analytics (PandA) Department is working hard to make operations more effective and better serve residents. Here’s what they’ve been up to:
- New Portal Helps Business Owners Comply with Wastewater Regulations and Reduce Sewer Overflows: Food Establishment Wastewater Discharge inspectors visit thousands (~5,000) of businesses with Grease Removal Equipment (GRE) to make sure they are maintained and in compliance. A new portal lets businesses upload maintenance records online, giving inspectors visibility and the ability to prioritize inspections. This portal saves time for businesses and City inspectors – making inspections more productive and saving trips – which leads to a better functioning sewer system, less susceptible to spills and overflows.

- Accessibility Workshop Leads to Real Improvements for Everyone: Performance & Analytics is all about designing solutions that meet people’s needs. That’s why last month, PandA partnered with the Office of ADA Compliance to host an in-person accessibility testing session with members of the National Federation of the Blind California San Diego Chapter to evaluate the Get It Done app and website.
