New, Free Online Resource for Families of Loved Ones with Substance Use Disorder (SUD)

The Pennsylvania Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs (DDAP) recently launched a new, free online resource specifically designed for the families of loved ones with substance use disorder (SUD) to go to for help finding support for themselves as they navigate their family member’s SUD treatment and recovery.

Caregiver Connection is a website for parents, grandparents, siblings, and others supporting a loved one with SUD. It is a one-stop shop for resources, including locating a local or online support group, connecting with others who understand what they’re going through, finding their closest county drug and alcohol office, where to get free Narcan, and more.

When someone you love is struggling with substance use, it’s easy to put yourself last.

Caregiver Connection can help Pennsylvania families and caregivers find support for themselves.

Visit to the Bears Barista Coffee House

I was thrilled to meet up with Dr. Susan Elliott, superintendent of Upper Moreland School District, to visit the BEARS Barista coffee shop run completely by BEARS Transition Program students at Upper Moreland High School.

I stopped in to grab a cup of coffee, delicious treats, and to meet some of the students who have made this coffee shop a reality. They are amazing students who, through this experience, have the chance to learn functional, everyday skills at the same time as building confidence, employability, and independent living skills.

The BEARS Barista is open to the public, so if you get a chance, swing by and see what an amazing operation this is!

They are located on the ground floor of the Upper Moreland School District Administration Building, 509 Davisville Road, Willow Grove, PA 19090. They are open Wednesday - Friday from 8 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. through the end of July and will reopen when school begins in September.

Thank you to Dr. Elliott and the staff and students at the Bears Barista for such a wonderful experience.

PECO Upgrades in Upper Moreland Township

PECO is investing approximately $200,000 to upgrade the underground electric along Pioneer Road, Bryers Road, and Gibson Drive.

What you will see during this project:

  • PECO will be replacing existing underground transformers with new pad-mount transformers; replacing existing pad-mount transformers; and installing new underground electric cable.
    • This equipment is necessary to reduce electric voltage throughout neighborhoods and requires several feet of clearance to allow for future maintenance.
    • Pad-mount transformers enhance reliability, are safer, and decrease restoration times when outages occur, compared to underground transformers.
  • The pad-mount transformers will be installed on residential property, as close as possible to the current underground equipment that is being replaced.
  • If a pad-mount transformer will be installed on your property, you will be contacted directly.
  • A machine will be used to install new conduits as well as new underground electric cable throughout your neighborhood.
  • Any impacted portions of yards or streets will be restored to their prior condition.
  • Construction will begin mid-August 2026, with an estimated completion date of late September 2026.
  • Work will be performed by PECO crews and qualified PECO contractors.
  • PECO has developed a plan to minimize direct customer impact as much as possible and to complete the project in a safe and timely manner.

Crews may need to temporarily interrupt service to safely complete some of this work. PECO will work with local residents to ensure they are informed in advance of PECO activities and any planned interruptions.

To ensure you receive all outage updates, please confirm that your phone number is accurate in the PECO system through MyAccount at peco.com/MyAccount or by calling PECO at 1-800-494-4000.
