Financial Independence, Employment Readiness Seminar and Workshop Series Begins April 18

Beginning April 2026, Hamilton County Veterans Services (HCVSC) will host and facilitate a FREE monthly series of personal finance and employment readiness seminars at its new location. The first seminar will focus on Budget and Credit Counseling and will be held on Saturday, April 18, from 9 a.m. to Noon.

The seminars are FREE and open to all Veterans of Hamilton County and their dependents. Breakfast will be served. Walk-ins will be accepted, though registration is preferred at this link.

Each three-month series of seminars includes individual workshops designed to assist Veterans with credit and budget counseling, financial literacy, and employment readiness. Veterans and their dependents who attend all three seminars will receive a certificate and a challenge coin.

The first seminar on April 18 will focus on budget and credit counseling. Financial Assistance Veteran Service Officers are Nationally Certified Credit Counselors, and they will be available to work with Veterans and their dependents, one-on-one, to create a budget. This interactive seminar is designed to assist Veterans and their dependents to:

•    Set and prioritize personal financial goals

•    Track income and expenses with clarity

•    Understand and manage debt effectively

•    Apply the proven 50/30/20 budgeting rule

•    Identify discretionary income and opportunities to save

•    Discover ways to cut costs and boost financial flexibility

Whether Veterans and their dependents are planning for emergencies, saving for the future, or aiming to make their paycheck go further, these seminars offer tools and strategies to help them take control of their finances and make long-lasting, informed money decisions.

Congrats - and thank you - to 513 Relief for 300 stops

Hats off to Hamilton County Commission Vice President Alicia Reece, founder of 513Relief Bus, for five years of service and the 300th stop in the community!

We were at the 300th event at Corinthian Baptist Church in Bond Hill this month. Residents were lined up at the 10 a.m. start to access more than 60 community and government resources.

FUN FACT: HCVSC Commissioner Lincoln Ware was broadcasting live in his professional role with 1230 AM WDBZ (The Buzz).

This event took place next door to our new location at Hamilton County’s Central Campus on Patricia McCollum Way. This closeness proved extra meaningful for one Vietnam Veteran we spoke with who is in his 80s.

We learned at the event that this Veteran, after leaving the military decades ago, was not able to connect with the benefits he earned. On the spot, we directed him to our new offices next door where our Claims Department got his application going to revisit eligibility. As a result, we believe that he will be able to start receiving benefits.

This is a perfect example of the success of 513Relief, community partnerships, and the need to reach residents where they live!

SIDE NOTE: We were in Woodlawn this month for another 513 Relief Bus event and, on a different day, a Veteran information session at Goodwill. We also talked with Veterans at an Ohio Means Jobs Community Resource Fair in the West End and an information session at Shelter House in Queensgate.

Veterans and dependents: come work with us

Join the Hamilton County Veterans Services team as an Outreach Associate in its mission to build relationships with Veterans and their dependents, community partners, Veteran service organizations, and local agencies.

Outreach staff are responsible for connecting the Commission with the Veteran community throughout Hamilton County. We make sure that Veterans know about benefits, services, and resources that they earned as a result of their military service, and assist them in getting connected if they are not.
