FDD Proclamation Recognizing 40 Years of Community Impact

I was honored to present a City proclamation to the Foundation for Developmental Disabilities (FDD) in recognition of their 40th anniversary this week. I’m proud to have the FDD as a resource, not just in my district, but for all of San Diego.

 

The Foundation’s partnerships throughout our region – including its support for inclusive programs where children of all abilities can learn and grow together – demonstrate what we can accomplish when our community works together. Learn more about the important work the FDD does here.

Books & Brew: Read-A-Thon dine out fundraiser

Support Juarez Elementary School’s Read-A-Thon Dine Out on Thursday, September 24, from 4-8 p.m. at Good Pressure Brewing off of Mission Gorge Road.

 

Just mention Juarez Elementary and 15% of your total tab on Good Pressure brews and Los Bulldog’s woodfire pizzas goes back to Juarez Elementary to help purchase more Spanish books for their classrooms!

Hate vandalism cleanup in San Carlos

On the eve of Rosh Hashanah, antisemitic tagging was found in San Carlos coupled with anti-black slurs as well. This is a completely abhorrent act. It is an attack on who we are as a City, trying to instill fear into communities. I fully condemn any expression of antisemitism and racism in our city. San Diego is a welcoming place, and this does not reflect who we are or what we stand for.

 

I’ve been in contact with SDPD and a report has been made. People who vandalize property and who aim to perpetrate hate crimes must be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law. If you witness any antisemitic or racist behavior, please report it immediately.

 

Last week, City crews were able to clear the graffiti and resolve the report.

Civita Concert Series

Rafa and I were honored to introduce BETAMAXX for their 8th year of performing at the Sunset Sundays free summer concert series at Civita Park.

 

If you aren’t familiar with them yet, BETAMAXX is a San Diego-based ’80s tribute band that has performed throughout the county at community concerts, festivals, private events, venues like Belly Up, and more!

Protecting Pedestrians: SDPD Urges Drivers to Stay Alert

September is Pedestrian Safety Month in California. SDPD would like to remind drivers to slow down and be alert for people walking on our roads. By always taking extra precautions, you can help protect pedestrians and reduce the risk of crashes and injuries.

 

SDPD offers safe driving and walking tips when behind the wheel or walking:

 

Drivers

  • Know and follow the speed limit.
  • Slow down at intersections. Be prepared to stop for people walking at marked and unmarked crosswalks.
  • Never drive impaired.
  • Avoid distractions such as using a mobile device, deep conversations with passengers or eating while driving. Keep your focus on the road.
  • Be extra cautious at night or when driving conditions are less than optimal, such as in rainy or foggy weather.

Pedestrians

  • When available, use marked crosswalks at signals where drivers anticipate foot traffic.
  • Always walk on the sidewalk. If there is no sidewalk, walk facing traffic.
  • Look both ways and make eye contact with drivers before crossing the street.
  • Be visible at night – consider wearing bright colors, reflective material or using a flashlight.
  • Don’t wear headphones or talk on the phone while crossing the street.
