Dear Inquirer,

Michigan families are feeling the pressure of higher prices and our government should be part of the solution, not part of the problem. That is why House Republicans took a hard look at how tax dollars are being spent and made responsible cuts that focus on affordability and value.

This year, House Republicans slashed overall spending in the state budget. That alone is significant. But just as important, for the first time in history, there is less legislation being proposed that would grow government with new, wasteful programs. That reflects a clear shift toward discipline, accountability, and respect for the people who pay the bills.

We are eliminating spending that has nothing to do with core state priorities. That includes taxpayer-funded tampons in men’s bathrooms, rent and legal assistance for people who are in the country illegally, climate action funds used for EV charging stations, and expansive DEI initiatives paid for with hard-earned state tax dollars. These are not essentials, and cutting them helps keep costs down for everyone.

At the same time, we are focusing on what truly matters to Michigan families. We are prioritizing fixing the roads, delivering tax relief like ending taxes on tips, overtime, and Social Security, and making sure every dollar provides real value. The goal is simple: make Michigan more affordable to work, live, and raise a family.

Despite claims to the contrary, programs that assist the less fortunate will continue to receive funding. Responsible budgeting does not mean abandoning compassion. It means making sure help is there for those who need it, while stopping waste, fraud, and abuse that drive up costs for everyone else.

House Republicans remain committed to this approach. We believe taxpayers deserve a government that lives within its means and focuses on results. Others may prefer a return to budgets shaped by special interests and lobbyists, but we are staying focused on what voters sent us here to do: fix the roads, cut wasteful spending, provide value for every dollar, and lower the cost of living for Michigan citizens.

Thank you for staying engaged and holding government accountable.

Sincerely,
