I hope you're having a great week. I wanted to raise your awareness to the upcoming meetings in Baltimore County that may impact you, your family, and our community.

As always, Baltimore County Council meetings can be viewed here, with an upcoming meeting on July 28 at 4:00 p.m. In the coming weeks, we have a meet and greet with the new Superintendent of Baltimore County Public Schools, a data center planning meeting, and a public safety town hall occurring in the coming weeks. Please take a look.

This evening, Baltimore County Public Schools is hosting a meet-and-greet with our newly appointed superintendent, Dr. Bill Heiser from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. At this meeting, Dr. Heiser will review his key priorities and community goals for the upcoming school year. He looks forward to hearing from the Team BCPS community and answering questions.

Rebecca from my staff, will be attending this event tonight. If you see her there, please feel free to talk to her about district-specific issues.

The Baltimore County Police Chief and the Secretary of the Department of Juvenile Services will be hosting a Public Safety Town Hall event on July 14, beginning at 6:00 p.m. at CCBC Essex.

Over the past several years, I have raised concerns about the effectiveness of current juvenile justice programs, the restrictions placed on our judicial system, and the lack of accountability surrounding juvenile crime. We have seen an uptick in takeovers, carjackings, and property theft. This session, legislation was changed to adjust certain charging mechanisms, but I remain unsure about the efficacy of that system.

Accountability and clear expectations are essential to maintaining safe communities and improving outcomes for young people, families, and victims alike.

I encourage all Baltimore County residents to attend and make sure that your voice is heard.

Baltimore County Planning Board will be meeting on July 16, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. to review the Data Center Study Report introduction. The meeting will be help at 105 West Chesapeake Avenue, Hearing Room 104 in Towson, Maryland 21204. My staff member, Rachel, will be attending this event, taking notes, and asking important questions. If you have questions about the meeting, please reach out to tbensley@baltimorecountymd.gov.

Baltimore County residents made it clear in May that they were opposed to additional data centers, so it is critically important that Baltimore County have their voices heard. Permitting and other information for the Frederick data centers has been reported through the Maryland Department of the Environment website here.

On September 1, 2026, the Maryland General Assembly will have access to the Data Center Impact Study, which required a veto override during the winter special session last year.

I'm honored to have been a part of ensuring that this impact study was completed. I will be sharing that information with both Baltimore County and my constituents when that information is available.
