Request and Return Your Mail Ballot In-Person

Are you voting by mail in the upcoming election on November 3? Applications for a mail-in or absentee ballot must be received by your county election office by 5 p.m. on October 27.

Once you receive your ballot, be sure to carefully follow the instructions and return it to your county election office as soon as possible. Completed mail ballots must be received by 8 p.m. on November 3. Your ballot will not be counted if it is not received by that deadline. A postmark is not enough.

If you have not already returned your ballot, I strongly recommend that you make a plan to return your ballot in-person. Voters in Allegheny County may return mail ballots in-person to the County Office Building at 542 Forbes Ave. in downtown Pittsburgh. I encourage anyone planning to vote by mail to request, complete, and return their ballot as soon as possible.

Updates from the Capitol

This week at the state Capitol, my bill to create safety standards for e-scooters and allow for e-scooter share programs was passed by the Pennsylvania House of Representatives! Now, it is up to the state Senate to vote on the bill and get it to the governor’s desk. Learn more about the bill on my website and by clicking on the video below!

Here are a few more of the many meaningful bills the House passed this week:

H.B. 2584 – Increasing transparency around utility rates by requiring the Public Utility Commission to maintain an online public database of rates and proposed rate increases.

H.B. 2706 – Updating the child and dependent care tax credit to give families more help with childcare and living expenses.

H.B. 2771 – Limiting use of license plate readers (including Flock cameras) to searches for missing persons, stolen vehicles, or as part of felony investigations and providing additional privacy protections.

H.B. 2826 – Expanding cancer screening access for firefighters by establishing the Firefighter Cancer Screening Program.

S.B. 1014 – Banning student use of cell phones during the school day beginning with the 2027-28 school year, giving discretion to schools on how to implement the policy.

Remember, to become law, a bill must be passed by both the state House and Senate and approved by the governor. Click here to read about the more than 500 bills the PA House has passed throughout this legislative session.

Did you know that Pennsylvanians who need help resolving tax issues may qualify for free legal assistance?

The state’s Low Income Taxpayer Clinics assist with state and federal tax matters, including audits, appeals, tax collections, delayed refunds, identity theft and tax fraud. Allegheny County is one of six counties where these services are available. Interpreter services are also offered.
