Aloha,

Throughout March we celebrated Women's History Month, and I spotlighted some incredible Korean Women in Hawaiʻi who continue to inspire me with their impact.

  • Ha Soo Whang immigrated to Honolulu and became the first Korean social worker in Hawaiʻi.
  • Dora Kim Moon was a charter member of the First Korean Methodist Church — which today is the largest Korean church outside of Korea.

The 25th Annual State Employees' Food Drive in partnership with Hawaiʻi Foodbank is about halfway through, and the outpour of support has been so inspiring. Mahalo to all who have contributed to help eliminate food insecurity across our state.

You can keep up with my office on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and my Website — so please feel free to stay connected. Your thoughts, feedback, and ideas are welcome anytime. Mahalo for your support!

With Aloha,

Sylvia Luke

Lieutenant Governor

🐣 Happy Easter! 🐰

Every year, I look forward to the Women's Legislative Caucus (WLC) Easter Basket Drive to support local families in need. Mahalo to the WLC and my legislative colleagues for continuing this amazing donation drive for 25 years!

Supporting Our Immigrant Communities

A Discussion with Fellow Democratic Lt. Governors

My family immigrated to Hawai'i from South Korea when I was just 9 years old.

Throughout my time in the Legislature, I've been committed to strengthening our immigrant services, so it was an honor to be invited by the Democratic Lieutenant Governor's Association to moderate the Immigration Policy Panel at their Spring Conference.

Alongside fellow lieutenant governors, we shared our personal immigration stories and what our states are doing to ensure our immigrant communities can thrive.

Bringing Awareness to Alzheimer's and Developmental Disabilities

The 24th Annual Advocacy Day hosted by the Hawaii State Council on Developmental Disabilities and Alzheimer’s Association brought together advocates committed to raising awareness about the rights of those with developmental disabilities, Alzheimer’s disease, and other dementias.

We sat down to discuss their priorities and personal stories. I'm so grateful for all their work and can’t wait to see the changes they make for our communities.

In the Community

It was an exciting time seeing what the diverse tourism sector of Hawaiʻi had to showcase at this year's Tourism Day at the Capitol.

I had the opportunity to discuss how we as a state can work toward achieving gender equity at the AAUW Annual State Luncheon.

At Great Chefs Fight Hunger local chefs and community leaders gathered to support Hawaiʻi Foodbank's mission to end hunger across our state.

At the Department of Education Student Showcase, I was impressed to see the unique programs and opportunities public schools offer our students.
