Your Voice in the People’s House
|
The 2026 General Legislative Session is officially underway, and I’m honored to be back at the Capitol working on your behalf. With only 45 days—the shortest legislative session in the nation—every day matters. I am focused on advancing practical solutions that strengthen our community and protect the values we share.
My priority this session is to be a strong, conservative voice for our district and to ensure your concerns are reflected in the work being done here in the House. I encourage you to stay engaged in the process. You can watch committee meetings and floor debates live, view past proceedings, and see daily agendas at le.utah.gov. Because there is so much happening on the hill over the next seven weeks, I will be sending weekly updates instead of monthly. This is a great way to stay informed on everything I'm working on for you. I hope you'll follow along with me.

Protecting our Future Generations
|
I had the chance to meet with members of the State Board of Education and my good friend, Superintendent Molly Hart, to discuss student needs and priorities across Utah.
I am continuing work on HB218, Digital Literacy, focused on keeping kids safe online and helping them build healthy habits around social media and artificial intelligence.
I have helped lead the fight in the Legislature over the past several years to protect kids from social media harms. These platforms are designed to capture attention, drive addiction, and increase profit, often at the expense of children’s mental health.
As the father of three kids in school, this is personal for me. Kids deserve leaders who will stand up to powerful tech companies and put their well being first. Utah is leading the nation on this issue, and I am committed to continuing that work so technology serves our children, not the other way around.

Great conversation this month at our first quarterly town hall of the year. We had a great turnout, standing room only, which speaks to how engaged our community is.
We previewed the upcoming legislative session and answered your questions, with a particularly robust discussion on tax policy. I appreciated the thoughtful questions, candid feedback, and respectful dialogue. That input is incredibly helpful as we head into the session and work to keep Utah affordable for families.
Thank you to everyone who attended in person and to those who watched online. If you ever have questions, concerns, or ideas, please reach out. You can always call, text, or email me.

From the Classroom to the Capitol
|
This week was a great reminder of why this work matters. I had the chance to welcome students from East Lake Elementary School to the Capitol and walk them through how the legislative process works. They asked thoughtful questions and even proposed new legislation, including a $15 bill. We’re still reviewing that one.
It is always encouraging to see young students interested in civic engagement and how our government works.
Later in the day, I presented HB33, Political Signs Amendments, in the House Government Operations Committee. The bill creates clear, consistent standards for political signs across the state and helps reduce confusion for campaigns and voters alike. Best of all, it requires campaigns to promptly remove signs after an election, something many constituents have asked for.

Making Life More Affordable For Utah Families
|
Many Utah families are feeling the pressure from rising costs. My colleagues and I are focused on taking action to keep our state affordable and protect your hard-earned dollars. We are working to rein in the growing property tax burden on homeowners and to ensure taxpayers have a stronger voice when local governments propose tax increases. We’re also advancing solutions to keep homeownership within reach by supporting infrastructure for new housing, cutting unnecessary red tape, and allowing the free market to meet demand. At the same time, we are pursuing steps to lower gas prices for Utahns and continue our commitment to responsible tax relief. Our goal is simple: protect your pocketbook, strengthen our communities, and ensure Utah remains a place where families can thrive.

The North Capitol Building: Built for Utahns
|
I had the opportunity to attend the ribbon cutting for the new North Capitol Building. This is truly a visionary project that will serve Utahns for generations to come.
The building is more than just office space. It will soon be home to Utah’s first-ever State Museum, creating a place where families, students, and visitors can learn about our state’s history, people, and future. From the beautiful stained glass that highlights Utah’s landscapes and counties, to the thoughtfully designed public spaces throughout the building, every detail reflects the pride we have in our state.
I can't wait to see kids of all ages wandering the halls, exploring exhibits, asking questions, and learning more about the incredible story of Utah. Projects like this remind us that good government is not just about meeting today’s needs, but about building something lasting for the next generation. I am grateful to everyone who helped make this vision a reality and proud to represent a state that honors its past while planning boldly for its future.

Fair Pricing, Stronger Consumer Protections
|
As a Legislature, we’re fighting to help Utah families avoid hidden fees and know exactly what they’re paying so you can shop with confidence. HB29 requires businesses to clearly display the total price of a product or service and ensures that any mandatory fees are fully disclosed and not misleading. It also gives the Division of Consumer Protection the authority to enforce these rules and, when necessary, impose fines on companies that violate them. By making pricing transparent and holding businesses accountable, HB 29 puts you, the consumer, first—helping Utahns make informed choices and protecting your hard-earned money.

Strengthening Public Education Together
|
This month, I attended the Jordan Education Foundation luncheon, and it was a great reminder of how much good can happen when a community rallies around its kids.
JEF supports students and classrooms across the Jordan School District by funding things tax dollars do not cover, including classroom grants, student food pantries, scholarships, and programs like STEM and Unified Sports. Every dollar donated goes directly to helping students succeed.
I believe deeply in strong public education, responsible stewardship of taxpayer dollars, and community driven solutions that remove barriers and open doors for kids. Supporting teachers with the tools, resources, and flexibility they need to be effective in the classroom is essential to that mission.
I am grateful for the many educators and community members who step up every day for our students, and as your representative, keeping our public education system strong, accountable, and focused on student success will always be a priority for me.

Meet my Legislative Intern
|
I’m excited to introduce my legislative intern for the session, Molly.
Molly is a senior at BYU studying political science and plans to attend law school. She was drawn to intern at the Utah Legislature because of her strong commitment to representative government and her passion for American politics.
Her interest in public service began in high school through the We the People program and a trip to Washington, D.C., where she had the opportunity to see the institutions she had studied come to life. That experience sparked a deep respect for our nation’s history and a lasting passion for preserving the principles that make our system of government work.
Since then, Molly has developed a strong interest in state government and the meaningful impact states can have on the everyday lives of citizens. I’m grateful to have her help throughout the session and appreciate the perspective, energy, and dedication she brings to the Capitol.
Please join me in welcoming Molly.
