Don’t miss my free document shredding event in Ross Township with state Sen. Lindsey Williams from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 10. Destroying documents that contain personal data is one of the best steps you can take to prevent identity theft. My staff and I will be on-site helping folks shred, offering data security tips, and information on resources available from the state.

As the daughter of a former City of Pittsburgh paramedic, I was honored to speak at the 16th annual PA EMS Memorial Service at Heinz Memorial Chapel.

Standing alongside EMS workers and their families, together we remembered the 84 EMS providers who have lost their lives in the line of duty and honored the countless people who continue to answer the call when their communities need them most. Having lost my dad earlier this year, this event was uniquely emotional.

Thank you to everyone who has ever worked in EMS. And for those who have been lost in the line of duty, I will use a line from one of my dad's favorite Star Trek episodes – if you remember what they were and how they lived, then they'll have found life again. Now they live in us and we must tell the world of them.

Congratulations to 412 Food Rescue on 1 million food rescues through their Food Rescue Hero app! This equates to 290 million pounds of good food diverted from landfills into the hands of people who need it. A huge thank-you to their volunteers and partners and Giant Eagle for helping make this work possible.

I’m excited to announce that more than $2 million in state grant funding was awarded to support projects in our community and across the region.

These dollars from the state are improving public walkways, helping our first responders, and expanding access to transportation for residents with disabilities. It is money well spent, and I will continue advocating for grants like this as a state representative.

Know a college student interested in state government? Let them know the PA House Legislative Fellowship Program is currently accepting applications for the Spring 2027 semester.

Applications are due by October 1.

The Fellowship Program is based in the state Capitol in Harrisburg. Fellows are placed in House committees or leadership offices, receive compensation (and, in some cases, college credit), and gain hands-on experience drafting and presenting legislation, attending meet-and-greets with public officials, and touring some of the Commonwealth’s historic public spaces.

Avalon Public Library's annual touch-a-truck event is on Saturday, September 19 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Local kids and adults can explore fire trucks, construction vehicles, and more of the big rigs that serve our community! This is such a fantastic event, and there is a quiet hour for those sensitive to noise.

New Hazlett Theatre and One Northside are hosting a free community gathering at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, September 21 that is designed to explore what is possible when we work together to help every Northside child thrive. Find details here.
