Dear Inquirer,

Michigan families are feeling the pressure of higher prices, and it’s clear people need real solutions. That is why House Republicans passed meaningful tax relief into law that lets you keep more of what you earn.

We eliminated taxes on tips, overtime pay, and Social Security. These are not abstract numbers. They are real savings for real people.

Ending the state tax on tips will help up to 300,000 hardworking Michiganders, saving them an average of $400 every year. When combined with no federal tax on tips, that is about $1,500 back in workers’ pockets annually.

Ending the state tax on overtime will benefit up to 500,000 workers who put in extra hours to support their families. That means an average savings of $500 a year on state taxes, and about $2,000 a year when paired with no federal tax on overtime.

Ending the state tax on Social Security will provide relief to up to 40,000 eligible seniors, saving them roughly $500 a year. After a lifetime of work, seniors deserve to keep more of their retirement income.

This is about fairness and common sense. If you work extra hours, earn tips, or rely on Social Security, the government should not be taking a bigger bite out of your paycheck or retirement check.

House Republicans are focused on policies that respect your work, your time, and your future. We will keep fighting to deliver tax relief that helps Michigan families today and tomorrow.

Thank you for the privilege of serving you.

Sincerely,

Matt Hall

Speaker of the House
