| | WATER DISTRICT BOARD REPRESENTATION FOR DEL PASO MANOR AREA | Following the reorganization of the former Del Paso Manor Water District into Sacramento Suburban Water District (SSWD), residents of the Del Paso Manor Service Area now have designated representation on the SSWD Board of Directors. Customers are represented by: - Craig M. Locke, Vice President, Division 5
- Kevin M. Thomas, Director, Division 4
Division boundaries were established in consultation with the Sacramento County Registrar of Voters to ensure fair and balanced representation. Customers in Divisions 4 and 5 will vote in the next Board election in November 2026. A map of the new divisions is available on the SSWD website. | | SIDEWALK AND SAFETY IMPROVEMENTS FOR STUDENTS | Many kids in unincorporated neighborhoods walk or bike to school every day without parents to accompany them. In 2024, my colleagues and I on the Board of Supervisors approved twelve Neighborhood Improvement Initiative (NII) projects in all five supervisorial districts and were focused on our environmental Justice communities. Two of these projects in District 3 are near Oakdale Elementary School and American River College. The Oakdale Elementary & College Oak Road Improvements Project is expected to be completed in the fall of 2026 and will do the following: - Fix sidewalks near Oakdale Elementary: A new curb ramp and sidewalk will be added at Polk Street and Myrtle Avenue, replacing incomplete sidewalks and a dangerous spot where a crosswalk currently leads to a drainage ditch.
- Add lighting near American River College: Nine new streetlights will be installed on College Oak Drive between Orange Grove Avenue and Myrtle Avenue, improving visibility and safety for students, faculty, drivers, and pedestrians.
These changes may seem small, but they make a real difference in student safety and show the County’s commitment to safer neighborhoods. | SAN JUAN EDUCATION FOUNDATION “AN EVENING WITH THE STARS” | The San Juan Education Foundation honors exceptional San Juan Unified School District alumni at the annual “An Evening with the STARS” gala. The gala not only celebrates and honors individuals who have made an impact in the district but also supports the San Juan Education Foundation by raising funds to provide San Juan Unified teachers and students with the resources and opportunities essential to academic success. The STARS Hall of Fame shines a spotlight on alumni who show excellence and creativity in their careers, inspired by a San Juan Unified education. Honorees are selected from nominations submitted by our community, making this recognition especially meaningful. - Joanna Rowland, El Camino Fundamental High School 1996 - Children's Author

Through the Equity in Action Community Funding Initiative, $4.2 million in grants will be awarded to programs located in historically underfunded communities—and this time, the community itself is helping decide how the funds are used. The Equity in Action Committee, made up of residents with lived experience and local expertise, designed the application process and will determine how the funding will best support children ages 0–5. This new participatory grantmaking model ensures that decisions are community-driven, culturally responsive, and reflect the real strengths and needs of Sacramento families. First 5 Sacramento has made equity, diversity, and cultural responsiveness the centerpiece of its work, with a clear vision: that every child in Sacramento County grows up safe, healthy, and able to reach their full potential. This process is about more than distributing funds—it is about building trust, elevating community voices, and changing systems so that all children and families have access to the support they need. Interested in applying for funding?
