Dear Inquirer,
San Diego City Councilmember Raul Campillo here: Happy Friday!
Welcome to this week’s Raul Roundup, your go-to source for the latest news, updates, and insights from our community and City Hall.

Zara just reached three months. We are always amazed and full of gratitude watching her grow. Rafael enjoys his older brother duties – it's been wonderful watching them get to know each other.

I want you to pay less for parking during special events in downtown
|
Earlier this year, I committed to advancing common-sense reforms to downtown parking rates after they were increased to $10/hour during special events—placing an unnecessary burden on residents, workers, and small businesses.
This Thursday, April 16, 2026, at 9 a.m., I will present a proposal to reduce the rate to $5/hour, limit enforcement to five blocks, and apply it for only five hours. This targeted approach maintains access while easing the financial strain on those who rely on our downtown every day.
But I can’t do this alone—I need your help to make it happen. If you support this effort, I’m asking you to stand with me and make your voice heard by attending the meeting in person, joining via zoom, or submitting a public comment. You can view the respective instructions below:
-
City Hall is located at 202 C. St. San Diego, CA 92101. The meeting will be held on the 12th floor, and you will need to fill out a speaker slip if you plan to attend in person. Please let us know if you plan to be there!
Together, we can take a practical step toward making our city more accessible, more affordable, and working for you again.

Reminder for Coffee with Campillo
|
Here’s another reminder that I’m hosting my first Coffee with Campillo, a joint event with Assemblymember Chris Ward, to hear your ideas, concerns, and questions about the City. This is one you will not want to miss.
It will be on Saturday, April 25, from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and requires an RSVP for the location. If you would like to attend, you can RSVP here. We hope to see you there!

Another successful bulk trash event
|
Last week, we hosted a free bulk trash event in Allied Gardens. While the event itself was an enormous success, even better was the fact families brought non-perishable goods to donate to The Jacobs and Cushman San Diego Food Bank to support families facing SNAP cut-induced nutrition insecurity.
By jointly offering the trash drop-off and food collection, and thanks to the generosity of those who came through the event, we collected 154 pounds of food. That translates to 128 meals for our most vulnerable neighbors.
We plan to collect non-perishable food at future District 7 events. If you were unable to attend but you would still like to donate non-perishable goods, which are in high demand right now, you can do so at the Miramar San Diego Food Bank. That location is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.-12 p.m. and 1-3 p.m.

Amidst all of the bad news circulating the internet recently, a deeply inspiring source of hope exists in the Artemis II Mission. The crew, which successfully traveled the furthest humans have ever traveled in space and will splash down off the coast of San Diego by the time you read this, took many opportunities to share their reflections upon looking down at Earth.
|
On Easter, the Mission Pilot Victor Glover shared the following message:
"In all of this emptiness — this is a whole bunch of nothing, this thing we call the universe — you have this oasis, this beautiful place that we get to exist together. I think, as we go into Easter Sunday, thinking about all the cultures all around the world, whether you celebrate it or not, whether you believe in God or not, this is an opportunity for us to remember where we are, who we are, and that we are the same thing, and that we've gotta get through this together.”
