Dear Friends and Neighbors:

I’m pleased to share some encouraging news about affordable housing efforts in west Placer County and a project that is helping create new opportunities for local working families.

This week, community leaders, housing advocates, and residents celebrated the opening of Parkside at Sabre City, a new workforce housing development that provides rental homes for income-qualified households. The project was developed by Housing Trust Placer, an independent nonprofit organization formed in 2019 through a partnership between Placer County and the North State Building Industry Association. The trust was created to identify innovative ways to finance affordable housing and leverage state and private funding that may not be available through traditional public programs.

Parkside at Sabre City includes 44 three- and four-bedroom homes, each paired with a two-bedroom accessory dwelling unit, across 22 single-family lots. The development was designed to expand housing options for working families who want to live in the communities where they work and contribute. Nearly all of the units have already been rented, though applications are still being accepted from eligible households. A family of four earning up to approximately $102,900 annually may qualify.

The homes are currently available only as rentals. However, Housing Trust Placer's long-term goal is to convert the homes into deed-restricted ownership opportunities, allowing residents to build equity while preserving affordability for future generations.

A unique aspect of the project is its funding. Much of the local investment comes from developer in-lieu fees, which are paid by residential developers in lieu of building affordable housing units within their projects. Those funds, combined with grants from the California Department of Housing and Community Development and cost-saving manufactured construction methods, helped make the development possible at a lower cost than many affordable housing projects.

I’m happy to say it CAN be done! I’m glad we were able to get these homes build for our residents.

Sincerely,

Bonnie

In the Community

CASA at Heritage Placer Vineyards

Members of my team had the opportunity to spend time today with residents of Heritage Placer Vineyards, alongside some of the incredible staff from CASA of Placer County, to share more about the vital need for CASA volunteers in our community.

CASA volunteers advocate for children in the foster care system, providing a consistent, caring adult presence during some of the most challenging times in their lives.

Right now, in Placer County alone, 55 children are on the waitlist for a CASA volunteer.

If you’ve ever considered giving back in a meaningful way, I encourage you to learn more about how you can get involved: https://casaconnects.org/

Salvation Army Week

I was honored to help recognize our local Salvation Army with a proclamation celebrating the incredible work they do in our community.

From helping families in times of crisis, to providing food, shelter, holiday assistance, youth programs, and support for our most vulnerable residents, the Salvation Army quietly shows up day after day to serve others with compassion and care.

Thank you to our local Salvation Army staff, volunteers, donors, and supporters for the countless lives you touch and for the hope you bring to our community every single day. We are grateful for all you do.

Fanny Bridge Ribbon Cutting

What a fun and blistery celebration! The replacement Fanny Bridge took years to complete but it was finally finished earlier this year and it was time to honor all the organizations who had a hand and its completion. Wind and cool weather can’t keep the people of Tahoe from celebrating!

Bagels with Badges

Thank you to everyone who joined us at Glen Willow Park for a fun morning of bagels, coffee, cool vehicles, and the opportunity to meet the heroes who help keep Placer County safe, while kids explored fire trucks, patrol vehicles, the classic 1959 Sheriff's Ford Galaxie, and more from CAL FIRE, CHP, PCSO, and Probation.

Fire-side Chat with Chief Hudson

A big thank you to our new Fire Chief, Jim Hudson, for taking the time to attend our community meet and greet!

It was great having the opportunity to introduce Chief Hudson to residents, answer questions, and continue building strong connections between our public safety leaders and the community they serve.

We appreciate your leadership and look forward to working together to keep Placer County safe and strong!

What is a MAC?

The Municipal Advisory Council may advise the Board of Supervisors on matters that relate to the area served by the Municipal Advisory Council (MAC). The Council shall advise the Board of Supervisors on matters specifically referred to it by the Board of Supervisors for review and recommendation.

Municipal Advisory Councils (MACs) are groups of residents from the local community who advise the Board of Supervisors on concerns. They are open forums where information about land use, transportation and general county information is shared and discussed. Residents can attend these meetings in their own community and talk about issues that are important to them.
