New Building, New Beginnings

I was honored to attend and say a few words, along with Rep. Melissa Cerrato and Senator Maria Collett, at the dedication of the brand-new Upper Dublin Township building. This state-of-the-art, net-zero building is an incredible example of how leaders can work together to turn a disaster into a new beginning.

When the tornado of 2021 tore through this small community, the officials and residents worked together to ensure that this catastrophe would not define their township. I am extremely proud to work alongside these township officials and staff to ensure proper state funding for their projects and am even more proud to represent this resilient community.

Stop Utility Hikes - Opposing the Proposed Increase

Last week I joined my colleagues in the Montgomery County Delegation of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives to formally oppose the proposed electric and gas rate increases requested by PECO Energy Company.

If approved by the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission, this proposal would raise residential electric bills by about $20 per month (12.5%) and natural gas bills by $14.52 per month (11.4%) starting next year, impacting more than 2 million residents across southeastern Pennsylvania. It would be the third increase since 2022.

I will continue working with my colleagues to push back against these increases and stand up for Pennsylvania families who deserve fair and affordable utility rates.

You can do the same. Follow the link below to sign the petition and let the Public Utility Commission know that this increase is too much for our community right now!

Hedwig House Awarded $250,000

Representative Steve Malagari and I worked to secure $250,000 in state funding to Hedwig House to support their work in Montgomery County.

The grant comes from the Department of Human Services. Hedwig House has provided essential mental health programs in Montgomery County since 1975.

From the official Press Release:

“Alongside Rep. Sanchez, I am honored to support Hedwig House and their essential mental health programs,” Malagari said. “Hedwig House programs have uplifted people with mental health issues and provided them with resources to secure housing and employment, allowing them to regain their independence. It is a vital organization in our community.”

“Working alongside Rep. Steve Malagari to secure this grant for Hedwig House reflects our shared commitment to elevating some of the most vulnerable members of our community,” Sanchez said. “Organizations like Hedwig House play a vital role in supporting individuals living with mental illness and other challenges, helping them pursue independence, personal growth, and a sense of fulfillment. I’m proud to support their mission and ensure they have the resources needed to continue making a meaningful difference.”

“For over 50 years, Hedwig House has been providing essential services for adults with mental illness in Montgomery County,” said Karen Bitting, co-executive officer of Hedwig House. “This grant enables us to continue to support our members by strengthening our psychiatric rehabilitation services, promoting connections within the community, and continuing our health and wellness initiatives. We are grateful for the support of Rep. Malagari, Rep. Sanchez, and others who made this funding possible. In partnership with them, we are assisting our neighbors in need to achieve what we all desire – a home, a job, and a friend.”

Hedwig House has two locations, one in Lansdale and one in Abington. More information about the organization can be found on their website.
