Recognizing Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Dear Neighbors,

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This month is more than a symbolic gesture; it is a call to action for education, early detection, research support, and community engagement.

Observing BCAM helps save lives and provides critical support to those affected by breast cancer.

Around The District

I had the pleasure of joining Mayor Sandie Walker for the return of State of the City, an evening focused on where York stands today, the progress we're making together, and what's next for our city. The future of York is being built, block by block, business by business, neighborhood by neighborhood.

This isn't just a look at where we've been. It's a look at where we're going and the people helping us get there.

Thank you to everyone who came out!

Last Saturday, I was honored to attend this year’s Spirit of Youth Awards! The ceremony featured winners for each of the eight categories and included descriptions of their projects and community innovations.

It was inspiring to hear from those who are making a meaningful difference in their schools, communities, and beyond.

Congratulations to all this year’s winners and nominees! Your hard work and commitment are an incredible reminder of the positive impact young people can have when they are given the opportunity to lead, create, and make their voices heard.

Around the Captiol

It's an honor to recognize the hard work and sacrifice of our veterans by declaring Sept. 29, 2026, as VFW Day in Pennsylvania.

The VFW continues to be a powerful advocacy organization for our heroes. Thank you to all of our veterans for your service and dedication.

Legislative Updates

HB2187 (203-0): I am proud to announce that legislation I introduced to bring Pennsylvania law into compliance with updated requirements for maintaining access to highly sensitive federal tax information passed the House.

Previously, Pennsylvania law required agencies to conduct enhanced criminal background checks every 10 years for employees who have access to federal tax information. Since then, the IRS has revised its standards and now requires these checks every 5 years.

House Bill 2187 would align Pennsylvania law with federal standards, ensure continued compliance, and protect vital state operations that depend on access to this data. For more information, click here.

HB151 (202-1): Upon passage in the Senate, this legislation will allow counties to screen for and conserve foster youth benefits in a savings account for when a foster youth exits care. This simple modification will ensure that more foster youth have savings to support critical needs such as housing, education and health care when they enter the workforce as an adult. For more information, click here.

HB634 (200-3): This bill would require schools to consider implementing a panic alarm system within their classrooms during the annual review of their safety and security practices. These panic alarms would be directly linked to law enforcement responders and signal a life-threatening emergency. For more information, click here.

Help Us Support Families in Our Community

We’re asking local organizations, businesses, and community partners to join us in making a difference for families and individuals in need throughout the 95th Legislative District.

We are currently accepting donations of diapers, wipes, and adult incontinence products, which will be distributed to local nonprofits serving our community.

Every donation can help provide comfort, dignity, and essential support to a neighbor in need. Together, we can make sure these necessities reach the people who need them most.

If your organization would like to donate or participate, please reach out to my office at (717) 848-9595. We’d be grateful for your partnership!

As we prepare for the upcoming tax season, our local AARP Tax-Aide program is gearing up to offer free tax preparation to seniors and low-income residents in our community!

Volunteers are needed throughout York County for the spring 2027 tax season. No previous tax experience requires patience, friendliness, and a desire to help others.

Volunteering with Tax-Aide is more than an opportunity to help your neighbors. It’s a chance to learn new skills, keep your mind active, meet new people, work as part of a friendly team, and experience the satisfaction of making a real difference in someone’s life.

You don’t need to be a tax expert. Volunteers receive comprehensive training and ongoing support, and there are several roles to match your interests and abilities.

Ways You Can Help

·           Prepare tax returns after completing comprehensive training

·           Welcome clients as a greeter or help schedule appointments

·           Provide administrative, instructional, or technology support

·           Assist community members as a translator

Your service makes a difference. Last year, nearly 100 AARP Foundation Tax-Aide volunteers helped more than 4,300 taxpayers file their federal, Pennsylvania, and local tax returns in York County.
