Celebrating a successful Senior Fair!

Thank you to everyone who attended my Senior Fair earlier this month at the Muhlenberg Township Building! It was wonderful to see so many community members, organizations, and vendors come together to support and connect with one another.

Stay up to date on all my upcoming events here: Rep. Jacklyn Rusnock | Upcoming Events.

At the Capitol

Expanding solar opportunities for warehouses

At the beginning of the month, I was proud to stand before clean energy advocates and talk about my bill, House Bill 1260, which would ensure new warehouses built in Pennsylvania are solar ready on day one.

By adding solar and increasing energy diversity, we reduce our dependence on any single fuel, supplier, or technology and we decrease the likelihood of disruptions and price swings.

House Bill 1260 passed through the House and now awaits a vote in the Senate. I will continue to promote and fight for this bill until it’s on Gov. Shapiro’s desk because real, impactful changes can be made when it goes into law.

Supporting Solar for Schools

I joined my colleagues and school officials for a press conference celebrating the success of the Solar for Schools program and calling for continued funding. This program helps schools install solar, reducing their utility costs and helping them be more environmentally friendly.

It was a exciting to hear Dr Christy Haller, Superintendent of Exeter SD, talk about the potential economic impact on districts and taxpayers when schools generate electricity through solar panels.

Dr Haller projects that the newly approved solar farm at Owatin Creek Elementary School will save their taxpayers more than $10 million dollars over the next 30 years. By generating 40% of the electricity needed for seven buildings, they are insulating the district against rising costs of energy. She credits the Solar for Schools grant for helping Exeter take on this project.

Welcoming Muhlenberg Middle School students to the Capitol

This month, I had the pleasure of welcoming the Muhlenberg Middle School 7th grade world civilization class to the Capitol. The students who joined me earned the highest scores in their class- a tremendous achievement!

It was a pleasure meeting such an engaged and curious group of students. We had thoughtful discussions about a range of topics and issues they were interested in learning more about. Meeting these students truly makes me believe our future is bright.

Thank you to Assistant Principal Joe Scoboria for taking the time to introduce me to this wonderful group of kids and for being such an incredible example and mentor to them.

Around the community

Berks County Armed Forces Day Parade

It was an honor to participate in the Berks Armed Forces Day parade and breakfast. What an inspiring morning spent serving breakfast to some of our finest veterans!

I had the opportunity to speak with several veterans, thank them for their service, and listen to their stories as they shared memories and reminisced with fellow servicemen and women.

Our veterans have sacrificed so much for our country and our communities, and “thank you” never quite feels like enough. Having the opportunity to give back to them — no matter how big or small the gesture — felt especially meaningful.

Muhlenberg Township Memorial Day Service

Despite the dreary weather, Muhlenberg Parks & Recreation once again organized a memorable Memorial Day service. The crowd was filled with generations of families, local first responders, and veterans, and no one seemed to mind the light rain as speakers took turns remembering and honoring our fallen servicemen and servicewomen.

As we celebrate 250 years of our nation, we also recognize 250 years of the United States military and the brave men and women who have defended our freedoms throughout our history. Memorial Day is a time for us to come together as a community to reflect, remember, and honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice for this great nation.

From the Revolutionary War to modern-day conflicts, we honor their courage, their service, and their sacrifice so that we may continue to live freely.

Manufacturing hub moving to Reading

I recently had the pleasure of touring the new Reading-based headquarters of EthoSource and Wyatt Seating. Founded in 2001 and originally based in Morgantown, this office furniture company will now call Reading home!

I joined Rep. Johanny Cepeda-Freytiz to present a House Citation to the company’s president, John Gallen, to mark this new move.

EthoSource and its companies will be renovating and moving into the former Briggs site. It turns out the two families are closely connected, so it only seems fitting that the original family business property would be the best fit for another family business with strong ties to Reading.

Congratulations to all the employees and staff of EthoSource. I look forward to seeing this company grow in our community!

Serving lunch at Opportunity House

I was honored to help serve lunch at Opportunity House with some local union groups. Since first opening its doors to the homeless in November 1984, the shelter is now a 24-hour multi-service facility that improves the quality of life for men, women, and children in need.

I’m grateful for the opportunity to give back and to support an organization that continues to make such a meaningful difference in our community.

Touring the Olivet Boys and Girls Club

I recently toured Olivet Boys and Girls Club and got to see firsthand our state investment at work! The upgrades are expected to touch nearly every part of the space, from HVAC systems to new flooring and plumbing fixtures.

Attending Muhlenberg School District’s Word of the Week assembly

I was honored to be one of the dignitaries at Muhlenberg School District this week. I revealed the #1 WOW word of the year: Kudos!

Kudos to all the Muhlenberg Elementary students who participated throughout the year learning a plethora of new words to add to their extensive vocabulary.
