Dear Inquirer,

We got an important win for Michigan last week.

The Senate has agreed to pass the House’s critical legislation to keep Michigan in the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact, protecting access to care and making sure patients don’t see disruptions from unnecessary government bureaucracy. This is a big deal.

It means 8,000 doctors can keep serving patients without interruptions, and patients across our state can continue accessing the care they need, protecting up to 100,000 daily appointments. All of that was at risk if the Senate did not act on our legislation before the March 28 deadline.

This is exactly the type of commonsense solution we should be focused on: removing barriers and putting patients first.

And here’s the key point…we got this done by working together.

When my colleagues in Lansing decide to focus on results instead of playing politics, we can actually deliver for the people we vow to represent.

Now we need to take this same approach and finish the job on another urgent priority: Selfridge.

The House has already acted to support funding for the infrastructure improvements needed to bring new fighter jets to Selfridge, which contributes approximately $850 million to Michigan’s economy each year, and protect thousands of jobs tied to that mission.

But the clock is ticking, and the Senate needs to act now.

I firmly believe that this should NOT be about politics. Just like the medical licensure compact, this is about protecting jobs, and doing what’s right for Michigan and our nation.

We proved last week that we can get things done when we work together, so let’s do it again and get Selfridge across the finish line!

Sincerely,

Matt Hall

Speaker of the House
